Default Obd2 engine in an obd1 car.

Okay so just recently my boosted poormans type r setup took a **** on me. Cracked number 4 cylinder and the turbo is toast. I wanted to try and stay boosted but decided it would be cheaper and more reliable to just go naturally aspirated again and sell off all my turbo parts. Instead of buying smaller/new injectors, and header, i wont have to because it already comes on the long block. Which will be cheaper in the long run.

i'm going to be going through H motors for a long block. They are one of most reputable company's for Honda motors and they are an accredited business in the better business bureau.

Heres the thing. My GSR block that is in my car already is OBd1. (obd1 ecu) H motors only has obd2 GSR long block's for sale. I dont really wanna pull the whole wiring harness and switch it to an obd2 wire harness. Ive heard of jumper harnesses/adapters but not sure how that would work. My ecu right now is chipped and tuned for boost so i have to purchase a new ecu. H motor offers an ecu add on and i more then likely will be doing that. I will have is Obd2 GSR, obd2 p72 ecu and an obd1 wiring harness. So my question is, What do i have to do to make and obd2 engine work with my obd1 wiring harness?

for the most part the obd1 harness will plug right up. the motor you get from hmotors should come with an obd2 engine harness. this will be usefull in that you will need to cut off some plugs and solder onto your obd1 harness. as well as you need a distributor conversion harness. some of the plugs youll have to switch are the injectors and the alternator. as long as you have both harnesses. you are good. every plug on the obd1 harness should have a home. but not every home on the motor will have a plug. and thats ok. i would recamend running an obd1 ecu. ether a chipped p28 with a gsr base map. or a obd1 gsr ecu. this will save you money.

I dont think the engine from H motors comes with an engine harness or not. Heres the link to the engine.

This forum drives me nuts. 147 views and 3 replys. 2 of which are mine. Why do people look at a thread if they arent going to comment on it? smh. frustrating.

Install a set of obd1 injectors, obd1 dizzy, and your obd1 engine harness and call it a day. Real simple.

The HMO motor may come with a harness, but it will be a RHD harness so it will be useless.

I still have the dizzy from my Frankenstien build. But my 750 injectors won't work lol. I wish HMO just had an obd1 GSR. It would make things so much easier.

buy obd2 from hmo.

install obd2 engine into your car using your existing obd1 wire harness - everything should plug up other than your distributor and injectors.

install your current obd1 distributor on obd2 engine.

get stock obd1 injectors and install on your obd2 engine or rewire the obd1 clips to accept obd2 injectors.

yup, just remember that obd1 and obd2 alternators are different as well.
the easiest thing would be to just get an obd2 engine harness and a soldering tool. that way when you start the project, you know for absolute certain that you have everything you need.

then you dont have to come back on here after a night of frustration and wasted time and tell us we forgot to tell you, you needed X plug from obd2 and Y plug from obd1 and you dont have them.

or just install your obd1 alternator on to your new obd2 engine... save that other alternator as a spare

This sounds like a better plan. Id rather not buy a obd2 wire harness if I don't need to. It would be a waste if I'm not actually switching them out.

I shall use my obd1 dizzy and alternator.

...and you dont want/need and OBD2 ECU. Stick with your chipped OBD1 ECU and have it re-tuned for the NA GSR engine.

I'm not getting the obd2 ecu anymore, going with the p72 obd1 ecu.

I ordered my engine from h motors this morning. Should be here in two weeks! Now I gotta get obd1 injectors.

For the injectors, can't you can just cut the OBD2 pig-tails of the JDM harness and solder them onto your OBD1 engine harness? No need to buy anything.

OR.....

If you were already running a chipped OBD1 ECU, you could have Pherable.net make you a new chip to keep your turbo injectors while running a stock GSR motor.

Just some food for though.

i was running rc 1000's on my NA lsvtec so chip with a stock gsr map adjusted for the 750cc injectors so your only extra charge would be a base map

or

rewire your stock harness for obd2 injectors with a base map made

i personally would just swap over the dizzy, 750cc injectors, and alternator so essentially turning your obd2 gsr into a obd1 gsr

Im swapping over my dizzy, alternator and my 750's should be sold this week so ill have money to buy obd1 injectors anyhow.

im planning on buying a new ecu for it and ran across this on ebay (i never buy anything from ebay, so this would be a first): http://www.ebay.com/itm/P28-P72-P73-...sories&vxp=mtr

has anyone ever went through "Diymike tuning" for an ecu?

his reputation is pretty close to flawless and hes sold over 1000 ecu's in the past year so he seems pretty legit, but i just wanna make sure before i spend any money.
