Ls/Vtec reliability?
I am curently in the process of building an Ls/vtec. It will eventually be turbo'd but at this point will not be. I have herd of reliability problems with ls/vtecs. This is the set up thus far, should that be reliable or should i be doing something diffrent?
stock gsr head (head just resurfaced)
b18b block
ls crank
cp pistons 9:1 comp.
eagle rods
arp rod bolts and head studs
acl bearings
type r oil pump
new oem GSR water pump
GE ls/vtec kit
eddelbrock intake mani
gsr lsd tranny
skunk 2 cam gears
power enterprizes timing belt
all new oem seals and gaskets
p28 ecu
any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Re: Ls/Vtec reliability? (BOOSTEDgreeneg)
Eagle rods come stock with ARP rod bolts.
All the ( B series) new oem pumps are the same pump.
Honda timing belt.
There are hundreds of posts about ls/vtec in the archives.Spend some time using the search.Lots of good reading.

If you dont know what your doing.. I suggest go all oem parts.. ctr pistons with honda bearings... acl i dont know... arp rod bolts and headstuds should be fine..
if a Lsvtec is installed properly then there should be no problems.... I have gone 25000 miles with my lsvtec and no problems nor leak...
suggest on oem parts.. thats what i think... its ur build up.. go what feels best for you..

Re: Ls/Vtec reliability? (milton)
Thanks. I know what im doing and my buddy used to have a ls/vtec so it will be built right. I just wanted to get some feedback on here to see what problems people ran into to prevent that from happening.
"All the ( B series) new oem pumps are the same pump."
All b series pumps are not the same. ls water pump has one less tooth then a gsr or type r. I thinks ls has 14 and gsr and type r have 15 teeth. ls oil pumps are diffrent also from a gsr or type r.

Sorry,I was talking oil pumps. They are all the same part number now.You are correct about the water pumps.
