LS/Vtec Cranks but won't start
Hey guys I have a 00 civic with a b18a1 bottom end and an b16a2 head, car was running great for a while and when i was driving it home from work it died and won't start again. the motor will crank but no matter what i do won't fire. I just replaced the spark plugs, distributor, and spark plug wires trying to get it to start again, but no matter what i do I get nothing. I also have put in 3-4 new ground wires checked the wiring for the map sensor and tps and those are in the correct spots. If anyone could help i would really appreciate it.

Because it is and you don't have to be a troll over something stupid. If you want to ask stupid questions like that post that in a forum that cares please ... and no check engine light when cranking. 93egSLEEPER

He said he has all the "key" components...but it won't start LOL. Obviously he is missing one component and I'm trying to make diagnosis as easy as possible. I would put money on a failing main relay as well, but if he hears the pump prime it could be something else.

Take all the plugs out except number one and verify with a timing light what your timing is at on the crank pulley cranking the motor over. Either disconnect the injectors or the fuel pump so you arent spraying any more fuel in the cylinders
If you have
Spark
Compression
Air
Fuel
Timing
Something is wrong with what youre testing. That motor should start with 150 psi. I highly doubt each cylinder has the exact same compression number too.
Are the plugs flooded with fuel? Are they new?
Batt fully charged?
Strong spark?
Do you hear any back fire at all?

Bad fuel? Did you recently fill up before the problems starting happening?
I've personally seen 5~6 cases of bad fuel causing misfiring and no running complaints in the Past 2 weeks alone and from talking to field engineers in my area, it has been a big problem lately.

Timing light won't help on an engine cranking. and the bad fuel thing sounds like a possible idea, should i try throwing some seafoam in the tank?

Have you tried a known good dizzy? Checked mechanical timing (TDC w/ timing marks at crank and cams)
If it jumped a tooth it could easily be the issue. Check to make sure the tensioner didn't come loose? Injector plug didnt come loose? Try a different ecu?
I'm just throwing out everything at this point from past experiences lol

Did you just refuel before these problems started?
Been a problem here lately on the east coast and I've been burnt by this before.
I don't believe Seafoam will bring back contaminated fuel. If there's water in the gas, you'll usually see separation. But gas can be bad and not have phase separation as well.
Lots of failed start attempts will also foul out the plugs so be sure to pull them and blow out/air out the cylinders every so often...

And you SHOULD be able to see the timing light flash as your cranking if your ignition system is working.
Think about it. When your starting the Engine, you still need spark. You just can't set ignition timing until it's running.
