H22A4 main & rod bearing selection
Hey guys. Im taking a stab at rebuilding a high mileage base model H22a4 block. This block has unknown mileage, and looks well used, but showed no damage or problems upon disassembly. All bearings, journals, and cylinders appear to be in good condition.
I am replacing the piston rings, and all the bearings (except the balance shaft bearings, as the balance shafts are being deleted). Im finding it very confusing to select the right Honda bearings. Im having difficulty understanding the direction of the code on the crank.
*note*
There are 2 types of H22A crankshafts, from what I understand. They come in 50mm main journal (1991-1997) and 55mm main Journal (1998-2001). My block is stamped "97", but has 55mm mains. Ill have to assume its from a 1998 model engine. When looking at the block, Im assuming the pulley end is cylinder 1, and the flywheel end is cylinder 4. Main journal locations should also follow this principal.
Coding for my motor:
Rods: 2,3,3,2
block: 4,4,4,3,4
Crank: 5,6,6,4,4 (mains)
C,D,B,C (rods)
following are pics of my crank and block coding, then the Honda specs for early engines (pre-1997) and then later motors (1998+). My crank displays the coding like the early diagram points out, however my crank has arrows pointing on the left while the diagram says that the #1 journal is on the right. The later diagram uses a bearing coding style that I cant find on my crank. Thus im confused. Can experts select the correct bearings using the Honda Charts? Thanks for reading.

Re: H22A4 main & rod bearing selection
Bump. Im going to order bearings. Im going with the idea that the arrows on the crank mean journal 1 is on the left even though the honda diagram says otherwise. Doing it this way gives this:
Rod bearings:
1) green
2) green
3) green
4) green
Main bearings:
1) black
2) black
3) black
4) brown
5) brown
measuring some of the old main bearings, I got close to 0.0790" on all of them, so they fall into the black/brown category as the coding gives. I guess Ill go with the list above.
