Re: H22 N/A rebuild...Good setup??
Hey guys : ) wow its been awhile. Just wanted to give u alittle update on my build.
Summer of 2011 After going h2b our first time at the track we ran a 12.9 quarter mile and couldnt get the 60 foot below 2.1. with some MT 205/50/15 semi slicks. Decided not to go back to the track untill we got a pair of slicks.
Winter 2011 came across a deal to trade a h22 flywheel i had for h23 95mm crank and rods. So jumped on that deal quick. In Dec and 9 months prego lol was super motivated to get this h23 bottom end complete.
I kept the same cp pistons i had because couldnt afford to buy another set at the time. I also couldnt afford to buy new h23 rods so i converted my h23 oem rods to floating pins.
After getting the bottom end together we clayed the motor and came to the conclusion we needed a .055" thick head gasket which brought my CR to right around 13:5.
I tried to stay with the oil squirters and bent them out of the cranks way the best that i could. Turned the motor by hand and everything SEEMED to be ok. Finished the bottom end rebuild in the summer of 2012.
Took the hatch to get a retune with evans tuning in july 2012 and immediately heard a nasty sound after start up. The motor seemed to be running fine but didnt want to take any chances. Couldnt pin point where the noise was coming from, so i decided not to get tuned.
Went home and took the bottom end apart the same night. Turns out that the crank was smacking the squiters pretty good. so we just ended up removing them completely.
Went to get tuned a month later and made 255whp 190tq on evans dyno jet.
Went to the track and our best time was 12.3 in a quarter mile with 1.6 60 foot at 109mph. 23x8x15 slicks
This was our first time on slicks at the track with just 4-5 runs. I didnt want to push the car anymore because the alternator bracket broke and we had an hour drive home. we had a socket wedged between the bracket and the alternator to keep tension.
In feb 2013 got a deal on a roma red 96 civic hatch. I decided to switch everything over to this hatch due to some structural issues the white one had.
we are now trying to turn the hatch more to a track car. plans are to get it as light as possible. with full interior it weighs 2300lbs with no driver.
When we bought the car
How it sits now
white plastidip with metalizer on wheels. Came out great.

Our next upgrade that we want to get into is bigger intake manifold. we may be purchasing rosko's custom oem upper and lower h22 intake mani. I also like NAH2B randys manifolds they are awsome. But dont think hes making them anymore.

Done!
Oh, and the wheels came out great!
I have to re-read all of your specs, but looks the engine makes some decent power, if you get a better Intake Manifold and header, it could really rip!
Rosko's intake setup with a good TB should really help you breathe, especially with the 95 MM stroke, it can use the volume. I modified my own like Randy did, but if I planned to stay N/A I would have Rosko make me one!

Thank you I appreciate your input on the intake mani. Yea looking like I will be getting his mani this season. Was thinking a skunk2 74mm TB. Do you think a 90mm TB will be too big for my setup? I think I read that CRAZES went with a 90mm TB in his setup similar to mines but I dont think he updated his thread.

Rosko told me once you go over 90mm tb you have to relocate IACV. How difficult was that to do? How was your firewall and hood clearance?

Sweet I would love to upgrade to pro 3s but I like to cruise and go to meets all summer long and don't think that'll be good with an aggressive cam like that. I may be wrong. I believe ive read ur build thread before but not sure. Whats ur setup and how much power u make?
If it wasn't for the throttle being so responsive to touch, I could have street driven it. On that setup I made 260 something. At 8000. Added a 4 piston head and kinsler 62mm itb and made 280 at 9200.

Re: H22 N/A rebuild...Good setup??
So your saying the throttles more like an on and off switch making it difficult to drive on the street? If that's the case I may be sticking with the 74mm tb.
going from a 68mm tb to 74mm would it really make a noticeable difference? I guess the biggest difference would be the fact that ill be increasing plenum volume with roskos manifold but im just stuck on deciding which size tb to go with now.

From what I found, the largest you can go with the B/H TB mount style is a 76 mm, then you switch up to the square mount style and go larger. I deleted the IACV when I went to a 76 on mine, but I went from stock right to the 76. Took a bit of tweaking to get my idle and throttle tip-in happy, but it works well driving on the street, at least in dry conditions. I took it out once to go around the block when there was still snow in my alley, that was a bit interesting, even with an lsd and snow tires.
I really want to get the car back to the track and / or dyno this year and see what it can do now, since I really opened up the breathing last summer. Last time I ran the car, it was on a stock im, tb and injectors, and a crushed ebay header.

Re: H22 N/A rebuild...Good setup??
Just a little update. Sent our OEM h22 manifold to Rosko and also purchasing his upper manifold plenum with a 2 inch spacer. We decided to go with a 76mm s90 TB. S90 tb look very nice being that they come polished. Hopefully they work as good as they look and not stick.
Rosko got a couple manifolds to do before ours but hoping to get it back around late April or early may. I don't think there are any dyno comparisons of the euro r vs roskos OEM manifold so maybe we'll be the first. Can't wait!

That's awsome to hear!! Thank you.
How's it going with your build?
My motor is getting rebuilt this year. Bigger bore, piston and cams. Will be posting up pictures very soon.
