Re: clearance with rage production header (diesel32)
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by diesel32 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Its no secret that Hytech,SMSP, DTR, RMF and a few others make a fantastic header. Although expensive they offer better performance than your average DC or equivalent.
Being meticulously hand made they cost about 1000-1400+ depending on options.
Although the price is fair and consistent for the quality and performance you get, not everyone can afford it. In many cases there is also a long wait as each header can take 2-5 days to build.
Another thing i would like to point out is that its rare to have a person that is exceptionally gifted in multiple areas. Take for example fabrication. The best of the best fabricators generally lack good business skills. Also people that are gifted usually have a lot of pride in what they do. And that's a good thing and bad thing. Pride can get in the way of good business decision making.
The reality is only a small percentage of the people buy the best or top of the line products (maybe 10%). The rest of us buy what they can afford and look for the best compromise between quality, performance and price.
The Rage header incorporates compromises that make the header more affordable while still offering nearly the same power and quality. Nothing is perfect as faults and imperfections can be seen on even the best products. Its awfully ignorant to point out the most insignificant imperfections while over looking the important areas such as performance. The same as stepping over a dollar to pick up a penny. The primary reason you buy a header is for the HP increase.
Sure anyone can criticize the rage header or any header for than matter but its on the market because there is a demand. Ignoring a demand would be bad... for everyone, as demand helps more than hurts.

you cant even compare a dc 4-1 header with any of the headers mentioned in this thread. come on.

He (DonF) is saying that comparitively speaking ($/hp) the jdm DC header is a good buy. NOT that the jdm DC is on the same performance platform as a long tube tri-y header.

i just picked up the rage header and i believe its similar in design with the hytech...i also ran into a clearance issue with the block...i had to grind the block down a bit for it to clear...i think its designed for the taller deck motors cuz i got about 2 inches of ground clearance right now

the stock Xmember had to be modded in order for it to clear...i had to remove a considerable amount of material and i still only have about a MM of clearance...however the only reason i did it was cuz i was excited about the new header and wanted to try it out....i highly doubt it is strong enough for prolonged driving and i have a traction bar on the way....i havent taken any pics of the ground clearance, but my front end is slammed( no wheel gap) and the header sits way low...ill take pics tomorrow when i got a chance

Re: clearance with rage production header (gldndrgn14)
I sold a Rage header to a customer of mine with a B20VTEC setup. Ground clearance was good compared to his old DC JDM 4-1, and he didn't have any fitment problems.

I have a Rage header on my B16. It sits on the webbing on the block. anyone know a high flow cat that i can use with the rage header? Since I went from a DC JDM 4-1 header to the Rage header. The Rage header is way longer so I cant use my old one.

I did. I just used mine for the first time this past weekend at a track event. Less than 200 miles of driving and they came off.

Same here.
At least the welds on the primary flange went all the way around.

tell me about it...even though i rarely drive the car on the street, its a major PITA when i do....if a driveway is more than a 15 degree incline i will rub for sure...im thinking of making a skidplate for it,but thats going to make the clearance even worse...and instead of scratching the piping it might end up dented

Re: clearance with rage production header (Suck my DX)
is anyone having a exhaust leak problem coming from where the 2 piece joins together? since day 1, my rage has been leaking like a **** from 2 of the runners where they meet up, there's so much exhaust buildup there that its turned black. ive taken it apart 2x and it still leaks. im wondering if i should ship it back or just get it welded.

You should contact Rage and at least talk to them before you weld anything on that header since you might void your warranty.
