CAM SPECS, CAM TIMING< CAM DEGREEING, CENTER LOBES , ETC...
This topic hasn't been covered much and I don't know why.
Proper cam degreeing is important for utmost power.
Why don't we make a list of cam specs so that we know where to set the baseline. I found out that the crowers recommended LOBE CENTER is +/- 1 degree to achieve the best power band.
I'll start with:
CROWER 63403
Center lobe intake 98 degrees
Center lobe exhaust 108 degrees.
TODA C @1mm
intake OPEN 22.5 btdc
close 52.5 ABDC
CENTER LOBE 105 degree
exhaust OPEN 52.5 BBDC
close 22.5 ATDC
CENTER LOBE 105 degree

YUp that site is very helpful.
But What I wanted for all of us of Specs like the opening and closing or even just the center lobe.. That is much more important.
we need it when degreeing camshafts with a dial gauge.

I might be able to find the skunk2 stage 2 specs that somebody gave me.
I'm using the stage 1's, so after I dyno and rebuild the motor I'll go back and degree both cams since my decks are unmilled. Skunk2 tech support doesn't even know on the Stage 1's and they don't come with a spec sheet either, so they're not much help.
I got a set of JUN Type 3 specs from Greg (CHEETAH) for where he likes the lobe centers, so I'll post those up some time.
I think Crower and Crane give spec sheets with their cams, so those shouldn't be hard to get.

I think there are a lot of people, myself included who know only enough to be dangerous and this is treading on "newish" territory.
Sunburst, please give us dangerous type n00bs a hand in understanding what information you are trying to accumulate.....
I'm almost willing to bet, somebody out there has seen or knows where to find these numbers, but didn't know enough to understand what they mean....

its a good topic sundurst, I have a long list that I've saved, but it worked best with various motors I built, doesn;t necessarily mena it'll work the same with other people's motors etc, alot comes to play with ideal cam timing. The manufacturer's specs are a good base but can still be improved upon.

greg, i know of the concept of degreeing cams from my machinist but i dont know exactly what it does. if it wasnt for the fact its 6AM i would do a search on the net to find out more. could u give some examples of some degreed cams u have worked with???

in lamens terms, you're trying to set the cams to the manufacture's base for ideal timing events. When on the dyno and you move cam gears, in essence thats what you're trying to accomplish, i.e. the best cam gear settings that yields the most area under the curve (as opposed to the peak dyno number junkies who will tune for highest peak number - god knows why).
for multiple profile cams like our vtec and mivec and vvti, etc you have two peaks, you tune for the big cam peak. Typically manufactures cut both lobes on the cam to syncronize when you degree for big lobe, lil lobe sets in place etc.
I usually try differnt camshaft combinations so some of my spec may not help you. However, pm me and I can give you some to try for jun3 toda a b c and d, toda killer 305/305, 305/285, skunk 3, itr/ctr and prolly a few others I have stored in my palm pilot.

Yes I believe this is a good topic. I thin this is the best way to set the base cam timing. But experience will come into play and we will be able to make our own base cam timings in the future.
I made this thread because when I asked toda about cam specs they were not willing to give data other than their customers. I respect their reluctance.
That is why I want to make this little space for cam timing.

Based on Valve lift @1mm seat:
Skunk Stage 2's In. Closing 49 ABDC
Skunk Stage 3's In. Closing 52 ABDC (They have 267 duration & are NOT 270!)
.....But, if they where 270 dur. the In. Closing would be 55 ABDC....

Do aftermarket cams have different measurements when using the feeler gauge? Like for instance lets say your stock cams have a certain clearance, are your BC cams going to have a different clearance?

Sometimes, yes. The specs are listed on the spec sheet.
I don't think some companies have caught onto how much people like to have a very complete spec sheet.

add to the list JUN stage 3s. cam centerlines are 110 degrees both intake and exhaust. my head has 2 passes taken out of it, my block has had .029 decked and when we degreed my cams my JUN cam gears were set at 0, -.5 for cam centerline. so dont go believing the hype about .015 thou off the head = 1 cam degree.
