Yes a mildly built b20 vtec might beat a stock h2b. What if you mildly build the h2b? What happens then. It's a no brainer. When I started racing all the hype was b20 vtec. You know what they were all running mid to high 13's even 14's. Now lets talk h2b. I can almost say guarantee 12's stock untouched. Now just look at my sig and tell me if your stock unmolested b20 vtec can do that? Remeber my motor is internally stock top to bottom with a stock manifold. Only thing that is not stock is the Tri-y header and 68mm throttle body. If I remember correctly there are some guys running high 11's with Pro 1's only.

hood tilt, hood prop, whatever it is. You have to prop your hood up with the qsd kit. Heres a picture of my own car for example.

I have a h2b that isn't making any were near the power that it should be right now and its still pretty decent. I love it. the tq makes it alot of fun to drive over the average B series. the swap is def alot more work though. but most people drop their jaws when they see my bay

I beat my buddy in his k20 eg .. I used to be nothing but b series guy .. And hatedh22s now I love it their natural monsters ... Working on my cams and valves retainers springs and hopefully break 11s all motor can a b20 do that under 3k no

Yes K swap has bearing. Unfortunately, the OP failed to consider all options and therefore bypassed asking the correct question. OP also failed to add in what his final goals(10sec/11/12/autocross/etc) were and in what chassis/weight. If hes seeking the easiest way to hit 12's or 11's then prolly H2b or b20v, but if he says 10's then prolly K.

K series motors have infinite trans problems so you cant call an h2b a poor mans K, a h2b will outshift a K anyday...
i don't know how realistic it is to have a 300hp dd motor...i guess to each his own...i'm partially biased towards a B20V only because i had one for a daily driver for like 3-4 years...it's not on the bottle but i'm sure i put down about the same amount of torque as an H2x motor....what do you think??
as far as your b20v trq, it might be near that of a stock h22 motor with a b trans when just comparing numbers but a h22's powerband will start a lot earlier than a B series.
So to answer the OP, go with an h2b if you are trying to get anywhere near 300 hp on a daily driver, but don't expect that to be the number that shows up when you are at the dyno.
Even a big boy K series wont get you to 300 hp without it needing race gas and having idle issues...

A 300 hp daily driver is damn near impossible and would be horrible in daily driven traffic, what a nightmare.

No fair, he has two heads on that K series...
anyway, 13.7:1 comp on pump gas, give me a break. Im scared running my 13.x:1 comp setup on e85...
Here is a dyno graph of my setup since we are comparing ***** sizes...
This is my 89mmx95mm h2b setup.

H series.
2.2 vs. 1.8-2.0L
As the saying goes...No replacement for a bigger engine(or something like that).
I rode in an H22 (stock) eg hatch a long time ago.It pulled harder than my $5k JDM ITR swap.
2.2 liters or more are where its at these days...
