Anyone use bosch platinum + 4 spark plugs
i just switched from platinum ngks to bosch +4 spark plugs with the 4 ground electrodes. i think its better like that because the flame can shoot straight out the top and not out the sides, but maybe im wrong someone chime in. feels like it is smoother. i got a good deal on them 6 each and they were 15 peice speical at my advanced auto store
Anyone have any bad experience's with these plugs?
also do the nology wires make any extra power or is it bs? i'm just wondering cause i see people running them sometimes and there so expensive they better make a single hp or 2

they actually hurt the flame propigation in the chamber. on certain cars they might be good but the design of a honda head no. An nology hot wires are a joke. dont waste your money

Yeah, platinums aren't what you want for performance. The platinum lasts longer but other than that doesn't provide any benefit. The ones with the four ground straps are garbage for an engine that doesn't that doesn't need a retracted gap plug, it just shrouds the spark.
Spark plugs do not shoot out flames. You want the flame front to burn in all directions not just out of the top.
You won't get better performance than the plain jane NGK or Nippondenso copper plugs. Price does not mean anything with spark plugs.

spark plug wires are spark plug wires. Run whatever is available. They all transfer spark buy the ones that look the best. I would preferably run something with alot of insulation. This provides a greater resistance to the wire prematurely cracking.

Re: Anyone use bosch platinum + 4 spark plugs
looking at the spark plug the flame shoots straight down and to the sides its not like its boxed it here's a picture of one for people that don't know what were talking about, i don't want to argue I just like to know what works good and why and how. As I don't have alot of knowledge in the spark plug department. I also belive some spark plug wires are way better then others isnt it better to have a wire with more resistance to help with noise interfearence, thats why i run a 8.5mm wire whats the size on the ngks?

Copper is a better conductor than platinum, platinum last longer than copper though.

Think about your "shooting down and to the sides" theory.
The fuel and air mixture is COMPLETELY surrounding the electrode, the porcelin nose, and the grounding straps. When the spark event occurs, how do you think that gas mixture is going to ignite?

Re: Anyone use bosch platinum + 4 spark plugs
I hope you realize those plugs are crap..
The only plugs you should ever run are copper or non resistance type of plugs
RM Autolite plugs or NGK v-power copper plugs is the only thing i'd run
Realize this.. - With thoes 4 prog plugs, the flame is never in the same spot and has a easier time of being blown out... take those out.. go get some regular old V-power copper NGKs.. you'll thank us later.

You really cant go wrong with the factory suggested parts for anything that has to do with ignition. I know that those blue wires, red distributer caps and the sound of BOSCH PLATINUM FOURRRSSS!! Might make your car Hella JDM YO! But they are all garbage.

Also, the edges of the extra grounding straps make the engine more prone to detonation.

hAhAa... i guess all have already been said so, yEp!.. i agree with the guys.. i've come to notice in my experience that ngk's are and will be the best for imports... some imports actually mis'fires and runs like **** with boschs, if not then over time; they will...

Re: Anyone use bosch platinum + 4 spark plugs
For the people calling the Bosch +4 spark plugs crap. I must disagree. I'm not sure if you're looking for high performance or reliability. I've been using Bosch +4 plugs in my vehicles for several years now, and I've received an average increase of at least 5+ mpg over what the stock/oem replacement plugs provide. I'm not sure how they would perform in a Honda Civic Hybrid if you're looking for performance, or if they would improve the already impressive mileage.
We have recently purchased a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid that just had the battery pack replaced. I was attempting to research to see if it would be better to replace the plugs with oem, or if I'd want to go with the +4's.
We're not looking for a high performance vehicle because I don't think we'd have gone with a hybrid if that was the main factor.
I'm looking for something that could possibly increase the mileage even more as well as being long lasting. I'd greatly appreciate a response from anyone that could provide an educated reply from doing it yourself, and what you'd think would be a good plug to intall.

I guess. Every single time a Honda has come through my shop with a misfire, they happened to all have bosch platinum +4. I also call bs on the mileage increase.

Re: Anyone use bosch platinum + 4 spark plugs
go with the ngk v power, the fact is copper conducts better then platinum, they are cheap enough to just replace more often, if you want to upgrade your wires, use a quality spiral wound wire, try to avoid the carbon core wires, they degrade really fast as far as resistance, this includes most autoparts store wires, a spiral wound wire conducts like a solid core wire, but the way it's wound it suppresses EMI, which is really important in any computer controlled car. the Nology wires are a joke, they are also a joke, I tried to contact them about their cool wires, and the 800 number doesnt even have anyone answering it, something about him quitting, I asked for information three times and was told no one was available, I finally gave up, and went with Moroso, why do you need an extra ground at each plug wire? the plugs are made out of metal and screwed into the big chunk of aluminum called the head, that seems like a solid ground to me, it's worked fine as long as there have been cars, the best improvement is make sure the ground from the head to the body is solid, and the ground from the battery to the body is solid

Re: Anyone use bosch platinum + 4 spark plugs
No I don't work for Bosch. I am a do it yourself guy because I don't have the time or money to be constantly replacing spark plugs. That's why I go with something long lasting.
My last set of Bosch +4 plugs had been in my old car for 120,000+ miles before I replaced them. Most of the time I had them in I was receiving on average an extra 100+ miles on a full tank of gas. That equals approximately 5+ mpg over the same model of car with an 18.5 gallon tank. That estimate is for people in my area with the same model, not the national average. I knew it was time to tune up my car again because I lost on average about 5 mpg.
If I was looking for something that would boost my speed and power I would go with a copper core plug, and I would have gone with the high performance wires, coil packs, and spark controller for my car. Unfortunately I'm looking for a longer lasting spark plug than one that needs changed every other oil change.
Saying that you wouldn't recommend them because they can cause a lot of misfires is an educated response that I do appreciate. However calling bs on the better fuel economy without any real proof for your position is not appreciated.
I'm not a speed demon, nor am I into high performance parts. I drive defensively, I rarely speed, I don't gun it from a full stop, I don't race to the next stop light only to slam on my breaks, and I joined this forum to try to get a little more education about a car that I have no experience in repairing. I've aready purchased a shop repair manual, and I've researched how to rebuild/recondition the hybrid battery should it need it in the future.
If you can provide well thought out educated responses to an honest question than perhaps more people that aren't into high performance vehicles would feel more welcome here.
As I have already stated if my wife and I wanted a high performance vehicle we wouldn't have gone with a Hybrid.
Thank you.

Well this isn't the hybrid/increase mileage forum, this is the naturally aspirated performance forum...
Also BMW doesn't even use Bosch plugs anymore, NGK now
