Ammfab Race ported b18c1 head is finally done!
It only took like 3 years for me to do it. Actually once I started it on monday it only took me till friday working on it a few you hours every day. Anyways I've got pics but not numbers yet so I thought I would throw the pics up as I like showing off my work so here they are down below. It still needs guides and machine work obviously but other then that is done. There was more work done to the exhaust side to help it keep up with the ported intake side which I knew would flow well once done. Being conservative I'm gonna guess at least 290 intake side and 230 exhaust side @.500" lift. Stock numbers at that lift were 251 and 190cfm. Anyways enjoy.........
here's some bowl and combo chamber shots also........

Your hand porting is really good, I like how symetrical the ports look and that takes a steady hand, keen eyes and a good sense of touch. Do you do this as a hobby or is porting heads a business for you?

Its Hobby/side work. I'm detroit diesel engine tech by day, I fab port and build engines on the side to give me a little extra money and give me something to do.

Very clean work.
What are your thoughts on having a slightly rounded dividing wall face vs a sharp one?
I've been toying with the idea of using a rounded intake and sharp exhaust dividing wall design. Kind of like an airfoil uses.
I am only a hobbyist as well. Just looking to have a discussion.

Re: Ammfab Race ported b18c1 head is finally done!
since the first head I ported 7 years ago i've always knifed the dividers. I've never flowed a head with blunt divider vs knifed to see if there are differences in cfm. I've had people question me on this plenty of times in the past and then some people that don't port at all but read alot think they know all there is about to know porting tell me blunt is better and they too use an air foil eye as their reason. I realize that's not what ur doing ur asking so take no offense to that. I've seen over 300 cfm on my neon and eco heads with knifed dividers so I'm sticking with them. By knifing ur also adding slightly more cross sectional area to the port, imo knifed the dividers. I'm very excited to see what this is going to do on the flow bench.

No offense taken. Just wanted to see if you have ever dabbled in it. I fully respect your "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach to your work. If I could make 300cfm/port I'd be happy with that too.
Good luck on the bench!
Cheers
P.S. regarding Steve, I think the toughest thing about porting heads these days is there are CNC machines that can do it effortlessly and flawlessly every time in a matter of minutes. It's hard to compete with that and make money at it doing them by hand. Doing this as a hobby at our leisure is much different than having multiple clients barking at you every day to have their head shipped out next day..... that would suck!
Good luck on the bench!

Wow great job on those! Looks really consistent for hand porting and for someone doing it on the side and not as a profession that is incredible talent. I've tried hand porting before on a spare head I had and gave up because it was not easy!
