alittle insight on a new brand up and coming.. OBX..
So I was Just surfing the web to really get some info on different amounts of power gains, i want no other cam but jun, crower or toda...but i came across obx, in the early 1998 obx had alot of trouble staying with the game **** was cracking in half and what not but now with all the research i've done i've came to this conclusion..
1) OBX has now said its stage 3's are almost equal if not better then skunk2's pro series stage 2's and 3's.. The duration from obx is alittle longer with a bigger primary lope.. awesome vtec...
2) OBX is so much on their product their guaranteeing a LIFETIME warrenty with everything that leaves their shop from some light bulbs to these cam shafts
I'm goin to probably get downed by alot of people for doing this to my type-r but i've choosen to go with obx stage 3 cams...i will have my ctr's for sale soon....recent buddy did stage 2 obx cams vs his toda b's... he made 3+ more hp and 8 more+ on torque then the toda's... i can't wait to see what they'll do on my R...btw obx says over 30whp and 22 ft of torque on their stage 2's..
any other insight, i heard their LSD was ..just godly awesome and some of their other products is good..

well, their "lifetime warranty" sucks. try getting an LSD warrantied out. We did. they said it was the shops fault. told someone who has been modding hondas since 92 that he put an axle in wrong... others will vouch the same info. obx is cheaper than it is a good buy.

I think you should do a search on here for OBX product reviews. Thier "lifetime" warranty has alot of fine print.

i just got off the phone with the guys after about an hour of convo with one of the head techs, With proper break in these cams will not wear down anything the reason they've wore down and broken so may cam shafts and rocker arms is because of the shitty oil used, the amount of unsually break in time.. these are operator error, I've gone threw 2 sets of CTR cam shafts with the same problems and i've tuned/built b series for over 5 years now, i know what i was doing and it wasn't a proper break in, usually around 600 miles is consider a proper break in... These people slapped these cams in, and nailed it to the firewall and rev their car high cause they thought they were making power..
I have recieved a fax from OBX
"to whom it may concern" providering the right amount of info on proper break in info and proper installlation done by a professional and if can be proven a professional will be completely refunded money and therefore well take care of repairs needed to head where the cam caused damage, i truely believe that they've improved their cams since last year, on top of that... i've known quite a few people to use the stage 2's and their goin on a good strong year in the motor...

Lifetime warranty against defects only. They will say install error. What happens if the cams break and ruin your motor...leave you on the side of the road. Then somehow they actually warranty them and send you another set. You still have engine work coming out of your pocket and downtime on the car. If they used the same cam blanks or materials as all the other taiwan cams then it might be ok, but obx has obviously used junk based on all the feedback on the other thread. Some things to think about thats all.....

also i wouldn't be using a product...if i didn't have VISIUAL PROOF they worked.. like i said.
1) vs toda cams the toda cams already made +22 whp on a stock itr, these on my buddies stock type made over 25...
2) they've been in the car for over two years now, with some valvetrain upgrades and other things..
3) the specs are the SAME as skunk2's pro series stage 2/3..
4) i've taken the head off and inspected other's head's /cams/cam seals/ and rocker arms for abnormal wear, there is none what so ever, these guys broke their **** in right with over 700+ miles with a good oil change..
i do NOT plan on reving this car past 3500k, and i will do a proper break in one can only hope and wait that this is really all operator error, i believe company can change and get more repiable..if this happens to me..then so be it.. i will take the cover off and check the arms/cams every 100 miles and take pics and keep an update of how its going.

SO the company reps told you good things? Well did you really think they'd tell you anything else?
I'm not trying to hate on OBX because I have never run any of their parts. Like I said....doa search and see what kinds of experiences other people have had. That is the only realistic way to gauge a company.

Re: (xEnderx)
from wha ti'm mainly reading, Most people are Eating rocker arms, and well. their saying that the billet steel is the reasons... if thats the reason, why isn't toda having any problems?? Same specs and what not.. only reason?? operator or install error...
**Toda Racing has been producing billet VTEC camshafts since 1994, longer than any other manufacturer. Years of experience with B16A and B18C engines have allowed Toda Racing to produce the best performing and most proven DOHC VTEC camshafts available.

Re: (xEnderx)
umm wouldn t this fall under a copyright infringement "the specs are the SAME as skunk2's pro series stage 2/3"? Why would they advertise that? How can their one cam cave the same profile of two of the skunk2 cams? Also what is their recommended break in procedure?

Re: (IntegraType-R)

Man, there are more kinds of steel than any of us know about. Just saying 'steel' doesn't say anything.

There's a 16+ page thread of people who have found out. I find it's cheaper to learn from others mistakes, but if you want to forge ahead, go wild. Let us know how it works out.
