oil filter too tight!
i changed my girlfriend's oil today and the idiot who did the last job tighted the filter too hard and i couldn't get it off at all after an hour of trying. so i put the new oil in without changing the filter. What are the consequences and when should she get her next oil change?

i had that problem last time i did it myself because before that i had jifffy lube do it. what i do whent that happens is stab a screwdriver thru both sides with a hammer and use that for leverage, works everytime

Re: oil filter too tight!
I personally dont leave the filter on for 2 oil changes for my own car. But a Honda A - Service oil change is oil only no filter. and a B-Service is oil and filter. So think of it that way, thats what the maintenance minder codes are for.

I put a screw driver through it before, didn't budge. So then i had an f'd up oil filter that was stuck on my block... Not fun.

Re: oil filter too tight!
i had an oil filter wrench but i had no leverage. the filter was in a cramped place to the right of the headers. and i had no room to turn it with the wrench because of the steering column. i was so mad i threw the oil filter wrench across the room. as long as its safe till the next change. it's not like my gf touge's or anything. what a turn on that would be.

qft. I also personally change my filter everytime, but at Honda, we're not supposed to change the filter every single time, but we do anyways. Just for piece of mind for the customers

oil filters can take 2 cycles. wouldnt recomend it but it should be fine. try tightening it then loosen it. shouldnt be that tight, gotta put some muscle into it.

Re: oil filter too tight!
whenever I do a oil change at the dealership for a tsx I usually go from the right side almost up where the wheel is and put one of my hands through there with my wrench.....I found it really frustrating if I try to take it off with my hands near the cat and going straight up from where the drain plug is located

Re: oil filter too tight!
yea, oil filter should only be hand tight anyways. but they tend to lock on pretty tight through the heat cycles and pressure and what not.

superglue lol...
seriously a good method would be to get a plant pot or small kiddie bucket made for making sand castles, add thermite and place on hood....google it to get recipe....then get a fuse that contains magnesium put it in the thermite....ignite the fuse and make video ready for youtube
problem solved

Re: oil filter too tight!
changing your oil without the filter is no good if u ask me. Ive never seen anyone do it in a while with Honda... besides not having a filter for a used car or something like that, but I wouldnt do it unless i was absolutely forced to. Just the way the oil flows from the engine onces you have the filter off is enough reason to change it.. flows out of all the galleys much better.

Re: oil filter too tight!
Same thing happened to me. Problem was the filter screwed on tight without oil on the rubber gasket so the block melted and fused it. Filter wrench adapter solved the problem. Use screwdriver as last resort. Dont forget to finger your filter with oil.
