Yeah, this was done at the CA studio.
My best friend is a designer at their Tokyo studio (which is why I was there last week) and things can certainly get frustrating for him.

The 3G and 4G TL were both designed by Americans for Americans.
There is a fairly hot JDM market of people who are trying to import the 4G SH-AWD TL.

Because Americans are good at marketing to themselves. That's why the Big 3 are beating out the Asian manufacturers.

Hey G... Have you considered options for new pogo sticks for your new ride?
Or you going to keep it OEM?

It is supposed to be the Way Ahead, and they're frankly surprised at what some of you are typing.
They wonder if the naysayers are even in the target audience, but they worry enough that they've commissioned surveys to ascertain the impact of the design.
The issue's further complicated because this all happened at the same time that the USA and Canada experienced a very serious economic downturn, so it's hard to tell if the economy is more of a problem than the cutting edge design.
It's important to Honda and that is, after all, why we are here.

I'm hoping the aftermarket will make some grills that don't make the cars look like they should be biting through chains or chasing James Bond...

But there are a couple of replacement grills out there if you really want.

Sadly, two of the best looking sedans released in the last few years IMHO are the Pontiac G8 and Ford Fusion You know it's bad when the Americans are releasing better looking cars than the Japanese.

Obviously it was hard to live up to that, but the new one is in no way even close to being what I'd call an attractive car. The chrome "Cow Catcher" grill is the worst design feature I've seen in a long time.
Every thread that gets made on the new TL (or TSX) always ends the same way. Honda is somewhat a result of its own success (living up to the simplistically attractive designs they've had in the past), but I don't care whose logo is on the car--it's just ugly. I appreciate the engineering, but the styling has to be there to some degree.
Honda needs to take note from the Ron Jon grill pictures above. The chrome V looks ok on the new SUV's (because it is a rugged feature), but not on its cars.
Frankly, I'll be glad when the next "corporate" look is on the market the chrome V flies south for the winter. I also don't think the look will age well, either.

No, the old TL was a beautiful car, from all angles. One of Honda's best designs for a 4-door sedan they've ever built IMO.

Great looking car much like the 05 audi A4, audi's cars keep looking better and better. I think these will go down as a great car, regardless it being FWD
in for reference on the audis
2005
2010, see the car has progressed on its simple design. People LOVED the a4's since the late 90's and they kept the essentials the same.
Acura's attempt at greatness in 2010
No matter what ANYONE says the front and rear end..... even the side-profile are just, hideous.
