Help TL not changing gears!!!
i was wondering if this is a problem for most tl owner...my car will not go any higher then 2nd gear. it just stays at 2nd and not move up to 3rd. while its in second the rpm just wont go back down. even when i switch to the sport shift..just the same... the check engine light comes on and the D5 just blinks...i have a feeling its the tranny. the car just jerks like crazy because the gears are all messed up....someone help meeh and give meeh feedback on this..do i need a new tranny or is there something i can do to fix this??

Re: Help TL not changing gears!!! (khmerstyle)
Campaign Number: 04V176000 Date: 2004-Apr-15
Component: Power Train: Automatic Transmission
Defect Summary: ON SOME MINI VANS, SPORT UTILITY AND PASSENGER VEHICLES, CERTAIN OPERATING CONDITIONS CAN RESULT IN HEAT BUILD-UP BETWEEN THE COUNTERSHAFT AND SECONDARY SHAFT SECOND GEARS IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, EVENTUALLY LEADING TO GEAR TOOTH CHIPPING OR GEAR BREAKAGE.
Consequence Summary: GEAR FAILURE COULD RESULT IN TRANSMISSION LOCKUP, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Corrective Summary: ON VEHICLES WITH 15,000 MILES OR LESS, THE DEALER WILL UPDATE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A SIMPLE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE TO INCREASE LUBRICATION TO THE SECOND GEAR. ON VEHICLES WITH MORE THAN 15,000 MILES, THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION TO IDENTIFY GEARS THAT HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED DISCOLORATION DUE TO OVERHEATING. IF DISCOLORATION EXISTS, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE REPLACED IF DISCOLORATION IS NOT PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL PERFORM THE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 21, 2004, FOR PILOT, ODYSSEY, AND MDX OWNERS. OWNERS OF THE ACCORD VEHICLES WILL START RECEIVING LETTERS ON JUNE 28, 2004, AND ON JUNE 29, 2004, FOR OWNERS OF THE TL AND CL VEHICLES. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009 OR ACURA AT 1-800-382-2238.

Yeah, if you have miles less than 100K or less than 7 years you will get under warranty.
Have you post it over http://www.acurazine.com? there's a good thread about TL compare to H-T

there really ahuold be a sticky in this thead about the trannys. these things are known problems, but the newer they are, the less chance honda will replace it. and even if you have over 100k, visit anyway, because trhey just gave us approval on a car with 120k miles, to be replaced under warranty.

lol...theres like 200 threads in this forum room alone about the tranny problem, if someone cant find it archived, then they dont deserve to be helped with it.

Re: (DA9toED6)
Wow thats good info, I did not know they would do it over 100k
Mine crapped out on me around 77,000 miles and Acura was great about swapping out the tranny and it only took them about 2 days. Oh well, now I'm trying to sell the TL

^^^ You have to have a 100k+ replacement approved...they wont just do it, my friend brought his CL-S up to one dealer who denied him and brought it to another that was about an hour from his house, explained his situation and they helped him out, only charged him a fluid change charge of $70 for the tranny and oil.
Good luck selling your acura, i ended up having to trade mine in after it didnt sell because on the CarFax, it read that it had been in 4 times for warrantied recall work.

Re: (hypnosisracing)
I wouldn't be opposed to selling it to a dealership. What do dealerships typically give for them?
Mine is a black 02 Type-S with 79,xxx miles on it and all options besides navigation.

lol...dont let this hurt your feelings, but if you've ever had the tranny replaced, and you go to the dealership...they are going to screw you.
When i brought my CL-S to ACURA (yes...to the dealership that sold the car)...with 70k miles, my FULLY loaded CL Type-S (with navigation...2001 model), they offered me $11,000. I laughed harder than i think i EVER laughed, i also said quite loudly "So you dont stand behind your cars enough to offer a decent amount for my CL which is in amazing condition outside the fact the tranny's been replaced 4 times because of a recall?) and the guy just got embarassed and walked away.
I got $14,000 for my CL-S from my brother's brokerage lot simply because they had a buyer almost immediately for it...but dont expect anything close to that.
