help me with a birthday present for my dad for his 3.0 CL
I have been working with hondas for a long time and just sold my 286 whp turbo hatch and my father picked up a 99 acura CL 3.0 liter.
HE want to do a intake, exhaust (headers only), and a computer chip. I was gonna buy some of this and install it for him. I am not too sure if the header will yeild any gains on this engine, my audi a4 only picks up 3 hp with aftermarket headers.
so basically if anyone has suggestions for some more hp on this car please help me out I have 2 weeks before I have to order these parts. Looking to spend under a grand for his birthday.
thanks

Re: help me with a birthday present for my dad for his 3.0 CL (yusoslo)
As far as the engine goes for that car it is identical to the V6 in the 98-2002 Accord. Honda did a really crappy job designing the headers for this car and that is the number 1 bolt on modification for that engine. I dont know if there are differences between the CL and Accord as far as chasis mounting points for the header goes so there might be a little bit of alterations you would need to make to it to get it to fit 100% but the gains are worth it. According to the dyno on comptechs page there was an increase of 35 hp to the wheels after installing the Comptech header.

wow sounds impressive, I looked at the comptechs and they are a bit pricey 1200 bucks but that is a suprising amount of hp to pick up.
any recommendations on computer software/chips

I havent heard of any performance chips for the j series v-6's but I doubt they would do much for them anyways without some mods first. Only hondas that I know of that like computer mods are the new k series motors.

go visit acurazine.com they have lots of info about Cls. I myself have a 3.0 cl. its the same engine as the av6 with minor differences in the tranny. Intake and Headers wont be noisy at all as i have those mods currently on my cl. Just watch out for the slushbox automatics tho =/, its a real big problem in the j-series and probably all honda automatics. GL wit your project!

Yeah a heavy duty tranny cooler is recomended for all people who have an auto j series who plan on doing any racing/ heavy driving.

Re: (CmptchAV6)
thanks everyone for the info. Sometimes I feel like a dumbass asking these questions becuase I have been around cars my whole life, but each engine is always a new suprise to how it reacts to different modifications.
anyways i will do more research and report back to you.
