1998 Acura 2.3 CL, can I make it fast?
This is my first car and I was wondering what are some possible parts I could purchase to make this car a bit faster. I'm into JDM cars because all my friends own are riced out Civics. I feel a bit left out and was wondering what I could do performance wise to this car?
- It's a 5-speed manual transmission (VTECH)
- Just installed a magnaflow muffler (just muffler)
-The springs are cut about an inch (I bought it unaware of this)
Pretty much everything else is stock. Ideas please?
I was planning on putting a cold air intake and a chip, but I'm a noob when it comes to cars and car parts.
Thanks guys in advance.

Re: 1998 Acura 2.3 CL, can I make it fast?
when it comes to these guys ( the 2.3/2.2) your stuck with obd2 standards, so there is no chance of getting that computer chipped for a reasonable price. the only way to do this is to jump to an obd1 ecu/stand alone/piggy back.
as far as performance, grab a mild regrind cam, dyno tune it and call it a day.
the only transmission upgrade availble is the Limited slip out of the h22a family.
Unless you are looking to upgrade the engine to an H22a4/a1/a thats about it.

I dont know what your budget is like or what your ultimate goals are for this car, however seeing as how you are probably going to be using it as your daily driver I would look into doing some "practical" mods to it. I did a little searching and didnt see much in the way of "CL" performance parts, however your car has the same engine as the 98-02 Accord(F23A1) and there are several parts avaliable for it, which they "should" work on your car. Some slight modifications may need to be done, but I dont see why you cant try it out.
You dont always have to spend alot of $$$ to get the results that you are looking for.
I think a good starting point for you would be...
Intake
Header
Exhaust
And if so desired, Nitrous.
AEM makes great intakes and most if not all have carb stickers.
DC Sports makes good headers and they too come with carb stickers.
As far as an exhaust is concerned I would just have a custom exhaust made from the header back(no cat) with an APEXi WS2 Universal muffler on there.
I dont have smog/emitions laws where I live so thats why I say custom exhaust, however I dont know what the laws are like where you live so check and see what the law is before you start mod'n your engine.
Nitrous is one of those "taboo" things or so people say, however I have no problem with it and if used properly there is alot of fun to be had. I would suggest if you DO decide to spray to turn your timing down a couple degrees and use colder plugs(a step down should be ok) and dont spray more than a 50 shot. That is a very conservative set-up, but its fine for beginners.
Another alternative would be to swap the engine, but thats a whole other can of worms.
Remember Google is your friend, so search, search, search. BTW its VTEC not VTECH.
Here are some specs for your engine, taken from Wikipedia.
F23A1
This engine was used in the 1998-2002 Honda Accord LX, EX, and SE, and in the Acura 2.3CL in North America.
Specifications
Bore × Stroke: 86.0 × 97.0 mm
Displacement: 2254 cc
Valve Configuration: SOHC, 16 valves, VTEC
Compression ratio: 9.3:1
Max power: 150 hp (112 kW) @ 5700 rpm
Max torque: 152 ft·lbf (205 N m) @ 4900 rpm
Good Luck!

acurazine.com has tons of info on these cars. Swaps, etc.
also do some research on bisimoto they had a pretty high powered n/a f motor. from what i understand the head flows very well and doesent need much work to make well.
