Tips for buying a used RSX S
I'm going to go look at buying an 03 RSX S. I had Carmax transfer it to my local store (for free) when it comes in what are some of the things I need to look out for? It has 56k on it. I know body work pretty well I just don't know of issues RSX's may have that I need to look for. Thanks for any advice you guys can provide.
(BTW: the carfax comes up clean)

Re: Tips for buying a used RSX S
I'm not aware of any particular "issues" with the RSX-S. I've had two and they never gave me any trouble. Look out for high miles and many owners or "tuned" cars. When I look to add a car to my garage I always look for unmodified well kept examples. It takes awhile but it's worth the wait. For more info check out ClubRsx.com. Best of luck!

Re: Tips for buying a used RSX S
check for the tranny
my friend has a rsx-s 2006 and he says he has the same 2nd/3rd gear grind problem as us ep3 owners
so i think its just a k series problem.
although after changing tranny fluids it goes away for a while.
when buying a used rsx/ep3 er honda in general
i always check for any mods. or any traces of mods ever being in there.
loose cables behind the dash. anything that looks like it didnt come that way from factory because most of the time people never do their mods correctly because they're ricers. or they rush to take all they're mods off and put stock back on half assed

Re: Tips for buying a used RSX S
Not to try to hijack the post but I am also looking at getting an RSX-S. On the 2nd/3rd gear grind, does it normally manifest itself with changes at higher RPMs or anytime? I have a 3rd gear grind on my accord that is a synchro issue according to the Honda TSB, is this generally thought to be the same thing?

i bought my 06 rsx type s about 7 months ago and it cost me 17,500. i traded my 03 civic for it which was paid off already and they gave me 3400 for it so ended up paying just over 15,000 it had 39,000 miles on it at the time.

Re: Tips for buying a used RSX S
ive had gear grinds on my 2nd, 3rd, and reverse. on 2nd it only seems to happen at really high RPM like, say 8k, 3rd dosent grind as much as it just wont go in sometimes i kind of have to force it in. and reverse grinds sometimes usualy when the car is cold.

look for an extreme level of awesomeness. All Type S models came with this. Now that they are aging, however, some now have more than others. Extreme awesomeness is not subject to mechanical faliure, and its current level can be difficult to diagnose. Also, 3rd can pop out or do other funny things. But Unless it has an obvious grind or something its not a big deal.

shift fast when you go on test drive, that will tell you if 2nd and/or 3rd has a problem.
also, IDK if its just me but the auto up on the drivers window goes up a few inches then back down so check that too.
