Theft concerns with RSX
With the increase of K20 swaps into older models, do you think the RSX will suffer the same fate as the ITR in regards to the theft problems it is plagued with?
I'm considering an RSX-S, but being a former Civic Si and ITR owner, I'm not looking forward to the ownership paranoia of taking the car anywhere.

i think it's inevitable, but if anyone wants your car bad enough, they'll get it, despite your countermeasures.
i would be more concerned about the average age of the rsx owner raising the insurance costs more than theft rates.

Re: Theft concerns with RSX (kung fu grip)
I'd say it's a little better now 'cause of all the new different theft deterrent systems. I remember how easy it was to get into a 96-00 civics from a friend of mine that showed me how his civic got stolen. Other than that, invest in a LoJack.

Well I do live in NJ, the best place in the USA to get your car stolen. Let's not even mention insurance while we're at it...
I remember a few years ago, there was a new post every week about somebody getting their ITR stolen. I'm concerned that this will be the inevitable fate of the RSX given some time for the popularity of the K20 to increase.

Re: Theft concerns with RSX (Kal)
My car got broken into in front of my house, in a middle class neighborhood, but I used to park my car in the city (NY) with the door unlocked because the mechanism was messed up and never had a problem. You just never know, so I wouldn't base whether you buy a car on if it's going to get stolen. That's like buying a car because you know you can sell it for a good price. Doesn't let you enjoy your purchase...

Re: Theft concerns with RSX (blackpearl169)
It will happen sooner or later. I think more later though. Tegs get stolen like crazy, and as years go buy, tegs get totalled, stolen and dissembled, and just plain become junk cars, the focus of those very same theives will switch over to the rsx. Get Lojack if you can afford it. It only saved me 2 bucks a month in insurance but atleast i have a little more piece of mind.

Re: Theft concerns with RSX (blackpearl169)
Its odd to base a decision on the theft problems of a car, but I have to consider this due to many factors. Living in NJ, especially central/northern, theft is very high. I enjoy going to movies, the mall, etc, and living in complete paranoia is not enjoyable at all and would trully ruin my ownership experience.
It's a complete shame when one has to factor in theft possibilities into a car buying decision. Thieves are just

Re: Theft concerns with RSX (Piston Honda)
I have had my RSX for almost two years and haven't worried about it much.....The immobilizer is the same one that was used on the late GSR's and type-r's model year 2001...if you look at the theft rates of that year ves. other years..you see a considerable drop....when you add to the fact the the rsx-s engine doesn't drop in easily (meaning without the purchase of aftermarket mounts and smart swapper) it makes it an engine that most people won't want...... consider a b-series was so easy to swap a monkey could do it. Hey...you know what...if they take my car...fine with me, I got insurance...and then I'll get something new.

you probably have a stock car
i think what kills most theft owners, is the fact that they dumped $2000 or $10,000 or whatever into their cars .. and lost it all.
I actually felt the same way as you when I use my dad's or mom's car. If it gets stolen, it'll get replaced, no big.
But, it kinda sucks for those that cant' replace their TEIN SS coilovers, APEX'i VAFCII, etc..
heh.. yeah i feel you all on this car theft part when choosing a car.. soo gay.
My dad was gonna buy a Red '00 civic SI.. and made me promise I cannot mod it at all, because if it gets stolen then those parts are gone
(he didn't buy it anyways).
I donno.. what makes hondas/acuras more stealworthy. I guess it's because they're a lot more mass produced than other compact cars that people like, and more people like to buy them..
Does anybody have some proportions.. for example, what percentage of all ITR's made got stolen?? It would be interesting to analyze this =P

Re: Theft concerns with RSX (Piston Honda)
Assuming the RSX has the immoblizer like the 02-04 Civic Si, I dont think you have to worry so much about the whole car being stolen just parts of it being jacked. I havent heard stories of any of the new Si's being stolen but alot of people have had their wheels and their seats jacked.

Re: Theft concerns with RSX (RedLight_Si)
I'm pretty positive that unless they have a tow truck (or flatbed) they can't take your car with out having your keys... And supposedly you can't swap the motor into another car without the key and immobilizer code from a Honda dealership...
I have a civic Si with the same immobilizer unit, I feel pretty safe if its outside... I worry more about door dings.

what??
anyways, the imobilizer will take cars of ur average car theif. i wouldn't worry about someone driving away with ur car, putting it on a flatbed is another story.
