Default Starting built engine without tune

Okay i know get a tune before you run the car, i know. But id like to know if i can turn it ok and leave it in idle to run the break in oil through the engine.

Ecu:
PNF

Car:
2002 ep3 si

Engine:
K20a3

Mods:
Crower cams
Crower valve springs
K-tuned rods
K20a2 crank
10.0:1 compression pistons
ACL bearings
K-pro ecu
Rebuild kit

Again we just want to turn it and leave it in idle but not sure if it would be safe. Thanks!

One thing that I've learned that makes this whole car thing easier is patience. I think things should be ok for just a startup and idle, but why even run the motor that you worked so hard on without it being set up right.

BTW: really like your build, i would like to copy it. I have a 2003 ep3 and what you did seems like the only way to get anything out of it. Other than boost, and i'd have to do 1/2 of this anyway. Very interested to know more. Pics? expected power? cost? keep posting on how this is progressing. Thanks and good luck.

Im glad you liked my build! This is my senior project for high school im only 17. I will be boosting later i just went way over my budget haha. This was just supposed to be a rebuild but thought why not build it since i will already have the engine opened up. In all honesty i have no idea how much power im going to get out of it. My goal with boost is 500hp max but as of rightnow N/A im hoping for 275-330hp.

Pictures ill post later and ill leave a link, from the video im making for my project, ill be posting thr video on youtube so once thats done ill put that here. Cost was around $4000, i took my head and block and crank plate to the shop to get resurfaced, honed and cleaned cost was about $600, pistons were about $550, crank is a stock k20a2 crank for $500, i sent my ecu to hondata to get k-pro for $650 i think, cams was $550, valve springs was about $150, new oil and water pump and rebuild kit $400 and $300 stock clutch. Maybe missing something

I have always heard that you should find a tune that closest fits the setup you have. Run that one then fine tune to your exact setup.

Tomorrow we are going to take it to the dyno and get a good tune. This is our first rebuild/build and we cant figure out why the rocker arms are tapping. Did the valve job on it today and did it to specs on a hanes book made for the engine yet we cant figure it out. We put oil in the head because i read online that it could be lack of oil pressure, we used lucas assembly lube to assemble the engine again so we cant be completely dry. We took off the valve cover a couple times to check if we are getting oil and we have no oil.

I connected my phone via Bluetooth to the ecu and the laptop via usb to get know how much oil we have and on the VTC sensor we had a negative. The oil pump is brand new so it cant be the oil pump. We gave it gas only up to 2000 rpm and the oil pressure would go up but since we still didnt have oil on the head we turned off the car to not damage the cams. Can anyone help us there?

We ended up not going. Possibly tomorrow we didnt get the appointment today.

So far the only problems weve ran into are not tightening the bolts on the intake cam gear and the rockers are still ticking. Fixed the gear not the rockers. Any help? Thanks

I would but no. If i get somthing simular to my build and work from there true i can fine tune but ill still be running a map not compatible for my engine.

Best thing to do is take it to a tuner. OP be like just load up a base map or load up the closest match. LOL People that say that don't know much about tuning or even building a reliable car just saying. Be patient and take it to the tuner. You will be pleased.

Alright so after looking at the oil pump, oil ports on the head and oil tubes we couldn't figure it out. We took a trip to honda to try to buy on oem oil pump because we thought the aftermarket one didn't work. They told us to check everything and we. Told them it was a slow process putting it together and they said maybe we put somthing on wrong.

Apparently the sprocket has to go on a certain way for it all to work right but we put it on right and we told them and showed pictures of the process and they said its a possibility. After sitting there and thinking i brought up all the crap that was built up in the engine and that got him thinking about filters and screens and it came to this whole in the head and that is where the oil goes to the head.

He asked if we had changed the screen because everytime you take somthing to the machine show the hot take doesn't clean the screen out it just plugs it more or just leaves it dirty. So we went back home to the car after buying the screen and we couldn't get it off so we decided to test it by losening the bolts on that plate and it turned out it was plugged so today we will be changing that after school and taking it to the dyno tomorrow or saturday
