Si treats 4k rpm as redline
hi everyone
my car has done this only 3 times so far. what happens is im on the highway for about 10 min (above 4k rpm) and then i get off wait at a light and when i start back up the car treats 4k rpm as the redline. this has been the circumstance for all 3 occurances. if i turn my car off then back on again it stops doing it. Any ideas?
thanks

Re: Si treats 4k rpm as redline (davidfillups)
if its and ep3 (aka si) your in the wrong section. check the RSX/EP3 section
if its a canadian si (aka US ex)
then its probably going into limp mode.

are you revving it when its not moving? if so there's a secondary rev limiter that engages when the car is not in motion

I was thinking check engine light too.
May be a sensor that goes screwy.

Re: Si treats 4k rpm as redline (Drew dc5)
Had this problem about a week ago.
your car is going into limp mode. Have you changed your oil lately? check you oil level.
I just changed my oil and it went away. Also try resetting your battery.

doubt what?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civic_Si
"Performance-wise, the ECU was slightly retuned to compensate for a lighter flywheel, and the launch limit RPM in neutral was dropped from 7,100 to 5,000 RPM."
I have a 2004, it's there... I just highly doubt this is what the OP's problem is

7k "launch control" on an open diff FWD vehicle? LMAO. Besides, 6800 is the rev limit on 02/03, not 7100...
Please don't use wikipedia to "prove" anything. Wikipedia = opinon-pedia.

sigh... look...
they lowered it, to 5K on the 04-05... that's how the sentence is to be read.
and like I said, I own a 04 Si, and it has a 5K limiter when you are sitting still, so I'm not using Wiki for my information, just thought I would show you that I am not just pulling it out of my *******.

You do have a check engine light but you don't have a CEL? If you're light is on it's like everyone is saying, limpmode. Last time it happened to me it was the O2 sensor.

Not saying it doesn't have it. I'm saying it's not for launch control.

Re: Si treats 4k rpm as redline (davidfillups)
Plug in your OBD-II reader and lookup the code.
I am betting that it will be a P05XX.
Any other warning lights illuminated? Does your speedo work correctly?
Did you check the oil level?
ALSO: 5.5K works well as a launch control. Something about full RPM at idle is bad from the B-series days? Don't know.
