Default RSX-S.....G35

Yesterday I finally got a chance to test drive the two cars I am considering for purchase: the RSX Type S and the G35. I know they are completely different cars and not even in the same category but these are my choices.

Both cars have their strengths.

The RSX sounds really demented, very high strung. The car does not sound “stock”, it sounds like it has aftermarket intake and exhaust. I have experience with many Hondas but this one just sounds and feels pretty good/fast. The build quality seems ok, the interior does not feel as solid as my 6th Gen. Accord but overall I think its ok. The trans is good, very smooth, what I expect from Honda. But I can get over the growl of the engine, not sure if it would annoy me after time, it is just loud..even when you are not “flooring” it.

Then I drove the G35, I know these are “way different” but they are what I am considering.

The G35 has a lot of power ( I drove the auto, that is what I would get) but it does not feel tremendously faster than the RSX. It has way more torque but to me it didn’t feel like it would beat the RSX by that much. The finish of the car is good, not excellent, but good. The interior feels a little cheap, which I did not expect in this car.

As for my choice, still undecided. I can but the RSX and still have cash to mod it a little, maybe fancy stereo, springs, etc…just some regular mods…or I can get G35 and leave stock. It would make for a better daily driver since I can get auto…I know I know about auto and stick, stick is better for performance but I live in Los Angeles and the traffic kills, especially on the hour commute (each way) to work.

Anyone have any other experience with these two cars?

are both cars the 2005 model?

I'm a little biased since I own the 05 RSX, but if money were no option i'd probably have to go with the G35, though you want it in auto, so i'm not sure (traffic or no traffic, i HATE driving auto... i feel so disconnected) if i'd go that way.

but do what you think is better. weigh out all the options. mod or not to mod, auto vs. manual, price, reliability, aftermarket support, etc.

My parents have the G35 sedan. It's an auto, but has the "manumatic" (I dunno what Nissan calls that) transmission where you can shift manually. I wonder how much stress that'll put on the tranny, but it is kinda cool for when you want to drive a bit more spirited.

I really like that car, though. Nice looking, seems solid, fun to drive.
Both cars are nice - I think if you want to continue to mod your car and play around with it a bit, the RSX-S is a much better option. If you just want the pimp ride and to throw some wheels on, get the G.

For me it wouldn't really be a tough call at all. I'd go with the G35. 1st off I just love that car. 2nd if I had an hour commute in traffic I would have to have the auto. I love my EP with ACT clutch, but I have a 2 mile commute .

The manumatic on G35 shouldn't wear the tranny out too much because they have automatic rpm matching on shifting (reduce wear) and it is RWD, so the tranny have all the room in the world.

Many pickup have auto tranny that are built better than manual and have higher towing capacity. So I wouldn't worry about G35 tranny not holding up.

I would say your way off base in respects to the RSX being faster.. if you talking about the 2005 G35 Coupe then no it isnt as the new one has 298 HP. I actually drove both cars as well as I have an Rsx Type S and my 2 other firends have g35s coupe manuel tranny both 2005 edition. They are still breaking in the car but im 100% sure it would smoke RSX type S ... if you want to feel that its faster then go with RSX, but an all around car would be the G35 with Nav that is If you thinking about the 4 door?? I would really buy it i would go with the Maxima instead.

I'm in the same dilemma you are. I'm now leaning to the rsx type s as it is much cheaper and will allow me to do a lot of mods for a lot less money then a G35.

Not to mention you'll have a lot of money left over for other stuff.

I'm thinking of just buying an 05 type s and waiting for the vortech or jacson racing street kit.

I'd get the G35 for sure.....but in manual.....How long have you been living in LA? 1 hour in traffic isnt that much at all....especially in the newer cars....

I'd get the G. Cause honestly that traffic will **** you off. you will have days where you will kick yourself for not getting an auto car. Manuel is fun ya, but still after working your *** off all day shifting for an hour in LA is not fun.

Keep in mind insurance should be about the same. The G miiiight be a lil more just do the HP difference. All in all though one car is a toy, the other is simply pimp status.

I noticed you have this on ClubRSX. You should find some G forums and see what they say.

If I could have afforded it, I would have purchased a G35 coupe/Z coupe (both cost roughly the same up here in "Canadia", which is to say they are both ridiculously expensive). Hands down. Torque + rear wheel drive + sex appeal = big time smiles. Oh, and even though I'd be broke, I'd still do my damnedest to mod it....the mild boost applications courtesty of Vortech of Greddy make that car sing!

Thanks all for the replies, I did also post on G35 forum and they seem to say the same, they all like the RSX but love the G35 more...I think I am really leaning toward the G now, even though I wanted to stay loyal to Honda...I have always driven Hondas and love thier reliability.
Once I buy either I will post pics, thanks!

I love the RSX- S ( I'm a Honda lover) and all, but If I can afford G35, I wouldn't even flinch. Anyways a stock G35 handle and performs better a modified type S. You can do so much to the RSX but at the end of the day, you're left with nothing but just another lack of torque fwd "luxry-sport" honda. s2000 on the other hand would be a better competitor and this is when it'll give me some real headache...

I think your comparing apples to oranges here. These two cars weren't really meant to compete with each other. I think the G35 is a lot nicer than the Type-S, and I just bought an '05 S. However, there is a big price difference between these two cars and I think that should be taken into consideration. For the price of the Type S you are getting a great little car.

The G-35, although higher in price seems to be the better option. As far as RWD is concerned, you dont really get crazy weather in L.A so it cant hurt to have it. The Acura RSX type-S, well, to me its a cool car and good for light spirited driving. After some modification it can be a beast as mentioned above. Consider both, and also consider the price of fuel, mileage, wear/tear, warranty and basic cost of ownership.

Is there a chance your car can get stolen or damaged? Lots to consider.

Big difference between a regular G35 auto and a regular RSX. S doesn't come in auto so you're talking about a 50hp gap. Not to mention the other sporty features it comes with.

if you work in any profession where your boss, co-workers, and/or potential clients will see you with your car, the G35 will portray greater professionalism and success... half the guys you work with probably have kids and g/f's that drive a RSX. RSX is a dope *** car, but there is no arguement that the G35 is much more adult of a vehicle. I would say the decision might have a lot to do with your age... as the time will come where you dont feel like your going to be taken seriously in a souped up boy racer modified car... I love my Civic but there is no doubt that I would not get taken seriously driving it around at my age (25)... i know there are things in life much more important that what others think of you, but unfortunatly the image you portray will often determine your success in this world. This is why I personally wouldnt end up with a EVO or STi... while they are ****** rad cars and perfect platforms for buildups... I am not 18 anymore, when I was I wouldn't have been able to afford them, and now I am too old for a car like that. Sometimes I will see a business man all dressed up in his work suit, got his shades on.. looks like hes Neo... but hes driving an EVO and it looks so rediculous to me... leave the toys for the kids if you wanna look like a grown up.

im sure ill get flamed for this since here I am posting this in a RSX forum... but I am just speaking from honesty... its not like im biased, I have an extremely modified Civic... i love the car its awesome, but you wouldnt ever see my driving it to a job interview or to take out a lady.

G35 are very expensive to modify, however if the time ever comes where you want to have some real fun, its EXTREMELY easy to get 450rwhp out of them... doesnt even take 10 psi with a TT kit (bout 7 grand setup right not to blow up)... i ran my 350z (same engine) at over 450rwhp on the stock engine for over 13,000 miles of extreme daily abuse, track racing, street racing, and just overall beating, and never had a problem once before i took it out for a build.

Pickup yourself a clean white G35 Coupe auto, put some 19" Volks on it, drop it on some Tein S-techs or something... you will love the car every day, the girls will love it, and if you ever get biten by the speed bug, its very easy to get huge power out of it.

Although we all love our Hondas/Acuras I think most of us would take the G if money was no issue. The G was my first choice last year, but I financed my new ep3, most of the taxes and a huge warranty at 4.9% and like $370/month. The G was going to be almost like a second mortgage payment. Now I make pretty good money, especially for living in Lexington, KY, but I couldnt justify putting myself in that kind of situation for a car. The image would have been awesome, but I am already married and have a kid. I love the 2+2, but the car seat would have been a bitch.

Bottom line, if you are single, no kids and can swing the payment roll the G!

I FINALLY did it! After so long of researching my (first) new car, yesterday I bought a 2005 G35 Coupe with sunroof and splash guard. I got it for about $117 over invoice, I think that was a good price for a purchase. It had 13 miles on the clock.
So far I love it, power is great, looks are great and all I am hoping for is good reliability. This car replaced my aged 4th Gen Prelude. I will miss the lude but I am sure I will grow to love the G35 even more.
Thanks for all of your help during my decision making. I was scared to bite the bullet but glad I did.
I wanted the performance 18 wheels but could not find one without the premium package and I really didn’t “need” the premium, I wanted to keep my payments a low as possible.
I would have liked the extra stuff and even the nav but ultimately I don’t think I will miss it that much or would have used it much.
The wheels I may upgrade to the 19 OEM at a later time but no rush, I actually don’t think the 17s are that bad.
