rsx oil consumption???
i was changing the oil on my friends rsx s and only less than 2 quarts of oil came out? so we called one of the acura dealerships and they said that the rsx and the T.L's consume 1 quart of oil every 2,000 miles.. meaning that the motor burns oil.. i dont know we just found that very odd... any comments???

Re: rsx oil consumption??? (TCLchicago1)
That's pretty much true. I have a Type S, and until recently, i burnt 1/4 quart of oil every two or three weeks. I've had my car for way over a year now, but i only have about 8,500 miles on it.
I was actually suprised; a couple of days ago, i went to go check my dip stick, and the oil level was at the same level as the last time i checked it.
So basically, my motor stopped burning oil after 8,000 miles. Don't worry about it; it takes some time/mileage for your piston rings to fully seat. After that, no more burning oil.

Oil consumption depends on many of factors such as the grade, type and make of oil that is used.... Also, when shifting gears at 8400 RPM, oil consumption is normal.

Well, i used regular Castrol GTX 5W-30. Also, i would go into vtec only two times a week, so i can tell you that shifting at redline was NOT a main contributing factor in my oil consumption.
I know vtec motors tend to burn oil, but everyone knows that the K20A2 tends to consume a fair amount of oil. It has been covered to death over at clubrsx.

You're way off! Factory hone jobs are so shallow that the rings seat within 30 miles.

So if the rings seat after 30 miles, whats the 1000 mi break in for?

Yeah, i'm sure you can say that for ALL honda motors that are placed into every single car *sarcasm*. Even if what you said is correct, it's more then likely not the case for every motor built.
For one thing, my motor didn't stop burning oil until a couple hundred miles ago, and that's the truth.

Re: rsx oil consumption??? (Agent_EM1)
for the first 10k miles, my car was burning 2 quarts of oil every 5k miles. honda oem filter(the larger ones that are standard on the s2000) and mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic is what ive used since the first oil change at 5k miles. After the second oil change at 10k miles, i havnt burned any oil (yet). Im at 12 or 13k miles and my oil level is at the same level when i changd my oil at 10k miles. My driving habits havnt changed either, but i also dont redline my car on a daily or weekly basis.
