OVER REVING TYPE S...CONSEQUENCES!!!
I own a 2003 rsx-s, the reason why im posting this is beacuse I bent all my valves and the whole thing that goes with over reving an engine. the question is that why did honda make such a close ratio 6 speed? didnt they know that the consequences for over reving this car are brutal??? I miss shifted my car from 3rd to 2cnd gear, took it to the dealer and they told me the car was way over reved beyond 9k rpm's, i said " ok can you fix it"? Is it under warranty? they said yes we can fix it, but it'll cost you 2,000$$. I said" ok" but no thanx" so i took it to a good mechanic by the name of DR. charles madrid who did an excellent job for a good low price.

Blame the 6spd close ratio tranny?
Right....first time I've ever heard something like that.
Edit: And ouch on your 1/4 mile.

I hope you put some TODA valvesprings or something comprable as well as stronger valves. Or else it may happen again.

Thats sucks they wanted 2k to repair it....All the over-revs I heard of were engine and head damage that both had to be replaced...Usually done under warranty as a "good-will" for one time only...
How many miles were on your vehicle when you over-reved it?

$2k to repair it from the dealer is a good price. I have seen some dealer wanting anywhere between $5-$10k to repair/replace over rev rsx engines.

....uuhhhmmm leasing is not a "no fault contract" If you do "stupid" things to the car you are still held liable and they are not going to just hand over a new one

btw "close ratio" has to do with the transmission gear ratios, not the spacing of the shift gates. I find the stock shifter w/ shortshift adapter to be quite precise.

Not to flame. But are you serious? Complaining about the 6 speed and the distance between gears? You went from 3rd to 2nd? What were your intentions to shift to 4th but you hit 2nd and you must have really jerked it. I don't know about anybody else's RSX but it's pretty difficult to shift into 1st or 2nd while rolling over 30 mph.

Re: (typesfanatik)
its not difficult to go from 3rd to 2nd, it could happen to any one, just be care full, and like one guy said: "just practice"... this car WILL go in 2cnd if you miss 4th. i guess it'll give you what you want to perform at its best!!

Re: (ZTYPE_S)
Damn,..you got Dr. Charloes Madrid to fix it!! COOL!!
he(Famous) was just on that gay *** show on TV w/ the Civic (sohc) and Talon raced!!
I still can't believe she wanted to keep that SOHC in there,........
anyway!
OVER REVING is almost an everyday thing in the Type-S
the way I would say drive(shift) it is be JDM Yo!(seriously)
***FOR REAL,..look @ some of the videos(any video-Best Motoring/Option) and watch their hand how they shift!
They "pull" on the gear shift w/ their hand cup'd around the Shifter(1st to 2nd shifts and 3rd to 4th &... so on),..that way to pull away/down into gear and believe it or not if you pull down w/ the backside of your hand pointing towards the dash you will shift it right,..or **** @least shift from3rd to 6th WORSE CASE Senerio.
on the "UP" 2nd to 3rd...4th to 5th shifts they push w/ the palm of their hand facing the dash and fingers horizontally away from their body.
I know it sounds stupid,..but the first time i noticed that "they" do that,..I tried it(had to be JDm yo ) and it actually feels quite comfortable. It will def help w/ miss shifts I would say in your case.
thought i would add that tid bit,....BTW I use to own a RSX-S but never miss shifted though.@least you got it fixed my the "supposed MAN".

just to tell ya buddy close ratio doesnt mean the gears are litterally closer together on the shifter. in fact by it being a close ratio it would have done LESS harm think about, it when you up shift the rpm doesnt drop as much. Since the previous statement is true if u down shift the rpm wont go as high as a normal wide geared tranny. all i am saynig is you are stupid to blame anyone and stupid again to pay out of ur pocket for it. my friend just didnt make a gear and over-revved his engine. since he already baught a service contract from the dealer they payed for everything minus the deductable. i forget how much the deductable was. not more than a few hundred bucks and he got a fresh valve job, all valves, all new guides and seals, prettymuch everything. he had i/e too, they didnt say a word. blame the over-revving on the throttle sticking.
