Default EP3 Redline

Hey everyone. I was looking at buying an EP3 as I love hatchbacks and am sick and tired of buying older hondas. (Having to deal w/ reliability issues, etc.) I was looking at pictures of the OEM tach and noticed they redline around 7k. What gives? Is this a fact? Why isn't they redline at 8k like the rsx type-s?

P.S.-I was looking at a few EP3 Si that were manufactured in the UK.
Info appreciated. Thanks-Matt

Yup, EP3 redlines at 6800rpm.
Redline is different cuz the type-s has a different engine code and transmission.

I mean except for the cam and compression differences, I thought they were pretty much exactly the same.

dont forget diff trannys. anyways, the Type S is a totally different monster. the EP3 and BASE RSX are K20A3s. basically its an econo version. the Type S is the performance orientated one. coming with a 8K redline and true vtec.

basically the EP3 wasnt made to race or anything. its just a littly sporty car with a 7K redline. nothing much at all. its a decent car. my brother drives one. its nice. but i have an rsx. beast&gt;kitten.

Don't listen to these guys. The K20A3 is technically the econo K engine. With small mods however you can easily get the numbers that a Type-S can get. The EP3 is smaller, lighter, and more rigidly built.

This is the DC5/EP3 forum, but too many think it is the RSX forum.

Also, yes all EP3s were manufactured at the Swindon, England plant of Honda of the UK. Which is why it has that unique European flair.

Who is this guy??? I've logged almost 1,000 miles of "track time" with my EP3 chitbox ... this car is at home on the track! I've been posting similar or better lap times than the likes of Porsche Boxters, 911s, EVO 8s, etc ... this car can be very competitive with only minor modifications. Sure it isn't a straightline speed demon ... but it is very mean in the corners!

Change the fluids ... check the pads and off to the track you go

The EP3 has excellent reliability, a solid chassis, a good motor, and is a blast to drive ... an excellent buy in my book!

ep3 &gt; rsx

ep wins in style, rarity, cool factor, jdm ability, mod-ability, weight, chassis, etc, etc.

a type-s may be faster out of the box, but who the hell on honda-tech bought a honda and didn't plan on modding it???

Yep for the difference in price between the EP3 and RSX-S u can swap a K20A2 into the EP. Thats what i am gonna do.

I also prefer the availablity of LHD Type R parts for the EP3 because it was also made for the LHD european country's as well.

arguable. ep3 looks nice yes, but a poll of this question may suggest otherwise...

and a mustangs red line is I think 5500rpm's.. You need to learn more about cars before you judge a red line.... Kinda like the ricer high school theory.. Yeah my car has 300rwhp... Yeah well my civic red lines at 8k and has 200fwhp. The 300rwhp most likely makes its peak hp a lot quicker than that of the 200fwhp car.

In other terms. With the gearing of the ep3 trans, you are making power low and quick. Sure you can run it up to 8k and most people do with kpro but without a decent tune and some mods all you are doing is trying to show off to people who dont care.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by eloist2 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">ep3 &gt; rsx

They weigh about the same.
Sure you may buy it to modify it but the type s is better for a base to start with.
type-s= n/a beast
ep3= turbo lover

Heh, I have only seen 3 EP3's locally this whole year. 4 including mine. At my school of 6000, I have the only one. There are at least 15 RSX's there. Every college girl wants one.
