I am looking for new tires for stock rims on Rsx type s. I've heard Falken avenis sport are the best. But how is tread wear and is it really a quieter ride than stock tires? thanks.

what do you want out of the tire and what are you priorities.

are you looking for an all season? summers? drag tires? autoX tires? track tires?

go to tirerack and browse

azenis have a bad tread rating... you'll get probably 15-25k miles off that tire. But they are the best auto-x tire you can buy cheaply.

right now im debating over toyo proxes 4 and falken azenis. looking for dry/wet tires for spring ang summer. i've always gotten toyos before, but the bubbles on the sidewalls that i've had develop on my previous fz4's concerned me and wanted to try something new. Do the falkens have as long a life as toyos, and do they grip better in dry and wet? the place im buying my wheels have them both for the same price so price is of no concern.

Azenis are good for dry, not as good with wet. Their life sucks.

I want great performance tire (sticky and feel stable cornering) better than the stock Michelins. But I also want less road noise than the stock Michelins as I have upgraded my stereo.

You will not be happy with Falken Azenis Sports if you want a quieter than stock tire.

I know I'm asking a lot from one tire but I read several reviews and they say the Falken Azenis sport is the most quiet high performance tire out there. I realize when they say quiet and high performance, it is kind of an oxymoron, but nonetheless I quess performance is more important for me.

i put falken azenis st115's (they are different from the Sports) on my car. Not as sticky as the sports but for daily driving along with the occaisional spirited drive I cant complain and they are pretty quiet (when they first came out, thats what Falken aimed the product for). The treadwear rating is 360 so they dont wear out quick, plus the tire itself looks a lot better than the stock michelins.

Azenis are not quiet by anymeans as they pretty good on the highway. A few choices you may want to considers are Bridgestone S03s, Kuhmo MX and if you want a cheaper tire, Yoko ES100. The S03 and MXs are fairly close to the grip level of the Azenis in the dry and above in the wet. Tire life will also be better. The ES100s are a good street at a great price, but expect slightly less performace than the other two. Though I doubt you will notice much of a difference on the street. The sidewall is also a bit softer on the ES100s so they will have a nicer ride.

It really comes down to were you want to compromise. Price, performance, noise, treadlife..... Then pick your tire from there.

Parada Spec 2s.... These were developed as a "Tuner" tire, meaning they look good. Performance is average at best .

Yeah, I meant to say, concurring with the post above, that the azenis sports will not be the quietest solution. They might be one of the best dry traction solution though. A great tire for you would probably be Bridgestone S0-3's, they are very good in the dry and outstanding in the wet. And from my recollection (note, not on an EP or DC5), are relatively quiet throughout most of the tire's lifespan.

These are probably one of the best tires to get. I'm going with the Pilot sports. if mbz can use them why not me?

I just got a set of dunlop fm901 for my 02 Si, which I auto-x in and I love them. They were about 100 cheaper than the es100. The tread count is very low so not alot of miles out of them, but they should last a little longer than than azenis sports. there is also a new BFG tire out. Oh yea the FM901's are great in rain too. I would really take a look at them.

i use yokohama parada spec 2.

they're pretty good in terms of a street tire, however i hear they aren't so great in the rain. it hardly rains here in SOCAL so i can't say anything about them in the rain yet.

Check these out:

http://www.1010tires.com/tire....n+ZRi

A buddy of mine works at a tire shop and tells me that they sent 2 guys down to Arizona to test a bunch of tires, and these thing blew the competition out of the water.

I just bought 4 myself but have only had them for about a week. However in that short time, I've experienced driving in super hot conditions, in wet conditions, and mildly cold conditions and the tire is better than I could have ever imagined.

The Bridgestone S03 Polepositions are definitely far superior to the stock michelins in wet and dry traction. The only downside is they're louder than stock tires.

I've been riding on azenis and they've lasted me about 20K (mostly HWY miles). so i mean with regular driving it will last you a while. very impress with the dry traction and cornering. but they are NOT QUIET TIRES at all. loud on freeways, and loud while braking. but after a while u get use to it.

im in the same delema here choosing me next set of tires. im looking into another set of Falken Azenis Sport or the Yokohama AVS ES100's

Yokohama AVS ES100's are great for daily driving. good dry grip, slightly less grippy than azenis but slightly better in wet traction. BUT keep in mind that these are NOT quiet tires either lots of people who own them complain abotu the noise. the tire do last a little longer i've heard.

Pricing is about the same (around $80 a piece for 205/50/15's) so the choice here is longevity versus performance.

you need to SERIOUSLY look at the ALL the weather you will have to drive in where you live currently. If you have to drive in the snow, you will be much better off with performance all-seasons than a summer tire like the falken azenis or bridgestone s03s.

high performance summer tires become louder as they wear, so be aware of that. wear ratings and speed ratings are broad-stroke, rough estimate guidelines.

i typically use two sets of tires, one in the winter, one in the summer, but i'm buying a new home soon, so i settled on all-seasons. sure they are squishy and soft, but considering the amount of miles i drive, plus the occassional snow that lands here in north carolina, i don't have to worry about getting caught off guard.

if maybe an all-season is what you need, look at the falken 512.

for summer, i love the azenis, but not so much in the rain. the ES100 is a great low-priced summer tires, and i'm very interested in the new bfg sports (bf goodrich)

as for the toyos, they are a very well-made tire. i have used the t1-s on my miata as well as the r1s for track events. the t1-s are light, quiet, nice grip, but slightly squishy side-walls.

i like the s03 bridgestone over the azenis for their rain characteristics.

in all reality, most summer performance summer tires are far beyond what most of us need, so in that 5% of the time you have them on your car, you may really use their capabilites, the other 95%, your really wasting them.

read the articles on the net and on he tirerack sight, narrow your search based on your geography/income/driving habits, then decide.

if you're into autocross, geta cheap set of wheels and really nice tires. both sets will last longer and you can always sell off the extra set.

***edit, sorry, the toyo RA1 are the other model i used on the miata, the r1s are/were a race tire made by bfg i used also, but a long time ago.***

hey Toneytigre,

Are you referring to the azenis sport or the st115? From my understanding, the azenis sport sucks in wet but the st115 is better and much quieter.
