Default considering upgrading to the nsx...

im considering either getting a ap2 s2000 or a 97+ nsx as my next honda

the nsx is pretty much double the price of the s2000 at this point, but i can afford both with no problem

whatever car i get will be daily driven, for the non winter months.

for those with a nsx, have you had a problem with vandalism? would the nsx make a decent DD?

im concerned that i wont be able to park the nsx anywhere with "haters" possible vandalizing it

if you drive in an area where you have to worry about high levels of vandalism then i suggest just buying an s2k. you definatley turn heads with an s2k.. but if you're willing to consider the gas milage.. go for it !

I don't know where you live, but I drive my NSX every day to every place I need to go. I take reasonable precautions in parking lots (it, park on the end, park farther out) but have had zero issues in almost 3 years.

The NSX is not particularly susceptible to vandalism, no more so than any other nice car. That being said, if you park your car in areas where you are concerned about vandalism, you might be better off with something less conspicuous (and less conspicuous than an S2000, too).

I agree with nsxtasy. Taking the extra precaution does help. A stock ap2 probably wouldn't get that much attention since they are everywhere now days. If you get some nice wheels and body kit,etc expect more people to notice it. I personally say if money is not an issue get the NSX it is one of the most amazing cars you will ever drive. The s2000 is fun but the NSX is aspiring!

I believe that its ability to be a daily driver is the fundamental aspect that sets it apart from the rest of the 'exotics.'

Last year my NSX got vandalized when I was out running errands. I was parked away from everyone else at the end of an island. Apparently someone found it amusing to drag something across my entire wing leaving visible scratches. Luckily the scratches weren't very deep and with the help of my friend and a porter cable we were able to buff them out to a brand new shine.

I wouldn't say I live in an area with a high crime rate as I've never had a problem before that. I've always taken extra precaution especially with the NSX but you are always susceptible no matter how much precaution you take and what car you drive.

In terms of being a daily driver, the NSX is a very capable car. Gas mileage is commendable (for a sports car) and the seats are very ergonomic. However, if you are truly worried about vandalism in your area, I would get a cheap beater in addition to whatever you will be getting, otherwise, as the others said, buy a lower profile car.

The NSX can definitely be a daily driver but you've got to expect "daily driver" things to happen to it. Be reasonable in your expectations.

- it will get dinged somewhere somehow.
- people will oggle the car and get close to it when you're not around.
- you won't be able to carry large(ish) objects in it.

And you'll worry about it. One of the best trucks I've ever owned was a 99 Tahoe that I didn't give a rip about. Park it wherever I wanted to, put anything I wanted in it, welcomed hail storms, etc. As long as it was reliable and transported my family safely, I was fine.

Own the car, don't let it own you.

I daily drive my NSX, even in the winter. I do have a beater that I can take downtown, to DC, the airport, in snow, etc.

I haven't had too many bad experiences. No more than I had in my old Type-R. I park away from everyone else. It's been 2-3 times now where some $#@ comes and parks RIGHT BESIDE me when there are like 20 spaces closer they could have parked in. Thats kind of annoying, but it's just poor people who are mad at the world because their laziness didn't make them rich like they thought it would.

The only time I've been somewhat concerned is a few weeks ago I meet some friends at the movies. I drove by myself. I parked in another lot under a lite a fair ways away from everthing. I come out of the movie around 1am and there are 2 thug looking guys checking out my car and since I parked far away, there's no one else around. Fun fun...

It's fine though. I accept the fact it will get hurt every once in awhile. It's part of the price of having the ***** to daily drive a $100,000 exotic supercar.
