Why pay more? TODA header versus road trash... Who wins?
The other night I was heading home after work, just chillin', blasting some music. I come out of my daze to a large blunt object in the middle of the road, my first reaction was 'swerve', which would have been a bad idea (i.e. On coming traffic in other lane), so I had no choice but to keep straight, and hope it wasn't anything substantial.
I was wrong, the entire car shuttered with an incredibly loud 'BOOM', followed by clanging down the entire car. I slam on brakes, walk back, and find the remnents of a 10 ton jack in the middle of the road.
I head back to the shop, get it on the lift to inspect any damage... Here's what I found:
Where the jack first hit (i.e. lower part of the front lip):
It then continued on to the header (i.e. Where it took the impact at 50mph)... Notice, it's nothing but a scratch. The spring holding the lower slip joint together popped off with the impact, but the slip joint saved the header:
(Think of it as hitting a ball at a flush wood fence, as opposed to hitting it at a chain link fence... One will give, one will break)
It then rattled around under the car between the ground and the car, digging through the undercoating to metal:
Then to the back half of my DC Sports 2.3/8" exhaust, and crushed it in:
Under the car:
The culprit:
Bottom line: Any other header of lower quality would have been completely trashed after this incident.
Why pay more for your parts? Because you're paying for quality.

Holy Crap, Zed!!! One more reason to buy TODA.
I can also vouch that if you leave the track at almost a 100mph going into T10 at VIR and bottom out in the infield grass, the TODA can withstand that impact too.

Thats the worst feeling ever, knowing you cant swerve or brake safely and the only thing you can do is head strait on and hope for the best....

I'm lucky it didn't smash the header, I don't know what I would have done about that... Kershaw's next weekend.
Everything's about the change under there, so I'm not too concerned about the exhaust being dented.

Could easily have been much worse. for being cool/safe, not swerving into oncoming traffic.

My M00000gen 4-1 has survived 100,000+ miles of year round driving, as well as 2 direct hits @ 75 MPH of freshly killed deer carcasses.

that jack could have easily smashed in your toda just as easily as it did your dc exhaust.
its all about how the jack actually made impact with the header. in this case, obviously not a direct impact like the dc exhaust took. regardless of the type of header, that jack will smash whatever

yup. I paid 900$ for a Spoon 4-1, and when my motor exploded and rod shot out the front of the block, guess what it hit? direct impact on the header resulting in a larger dent then you experienced.

I'm sure if it had been slightly larger, it would have greatly damaged it further... Upon initial impact (i.e. On the header), the car shuttered pretty damn hard. It hit it hard, but if it had hit a bit differently, I'm sure it would have smashed it.

Looks to be the piston of one of those cylinder shaped floor jacks.
