What passes for a JDM Type-R these days...
A friend of mine was admiring my Type-R engine the other day and recently has been searching for one to drop into her DC (her LS engine is shot, but her body is pristine). She is having a lot of trouble getting herself one, so she decided to consider eBay. After looking at what they had to offer, I realized just how difficult it's getting out there. Even Hmotors has limited supply (at the moment on back order with a wait list), and they will tell you that even in Japan where they produced 30,000+ they are scarce now. Looking at eBay's current offerings, I don't see anything at all TBH, except for one "96-97 spec" engine out of Virginia with a serial number indicating it's actually a '98+ spec for a whopping $5500. There's another "Type-R" swap on there for $8500 that has a GSR engine (not mentioned in the listing's title) and a Type-R transmission (so he's calling it a "Type-R swap") that was used and abused according to the description:

But THIS ONE took the cake...
I don't know how many of you have ever dealt with JDM King Motors in TX before, but for them to put their name on this says a lot about their company. This is the most blatant case of fraud I've ever seen on the Internet, and that's saying something. What's clearly a GSR block / B16 head with a painted valve cover with PasswordJDM valve cover bolts, a Golden Eagle fuel rail, B&M FPR, eBay cam gears, P28 ECU and a non-LSD transmission is being passed off as a "98-spec Type-R imported directly from Japan" with 60,000 miles.
JDM King Motors "JDM Type-R" swap
At this point I told her that I honestly don't even know where to buy a genuine Type-R engine these days. She tried Alibaba but the seller wanted Western Union. I said it might just be cheaper to buy a Dart block and start from there. But I don't think she is willing to do a build, either. Sucks... never thought it would get like this!

Nothing. Their website says they don't have any B-series engines in stock at all, just some D-series engines and a K20A Accord Euro R. How long ago did you work there?

Gave him a call. Nothing. Maybe in a few months but he can't guarantee that. Said prices are going through the roof so he's not really getting them like he used to. Could get an SiR-G in the distant future.
Even GSR engines are hard to come by. I might convince her to get one of those instead.

If her integra isn't a type R then i would just k24-swap it instead, motors are so much cheaper and way easier to find plus more torque with more power potential with basic bolt-ons. K-swaps are also so much cheaper than they used to be

Yeah, she's not really cut out for doing K swaps. I found a Type-R for her anyways. It's gonna take a while to show up though.
From now on, people are going to pay through the nose for these engines.

It looks like the prices won't be going down. I just spoke to an importer The prices of the JDM donor cars are going up, especially since they can be imported to many countries legally.
Importers are even finding it more profitable to part out the swaps instead of selling all-inclusive swaps.

Hate how they part out perfectly good cars. Unfortunately the parts prices will probably just go up with the cars value so it'll still be profitable.
