i guess it is possible, very high mileage..97 or 98. If you can spend 2-3k more, you will find one for sure. Just have patience

Its not that bad, I wouldn't pay more than 10000 probably for a salvage. Possibly 12 thousand for a 2001 or something that was in decent condition.

Salvage is what your going to be looking for in my opinion!

It will be very hard to get a loan for a car with a salvage title so it may be necessary to pay in cash. And someone who has $10k in cash hanging around should have no trouble getting a loan for $5k or so more and buy a decent clean title car.

E36 M3? Yeah, you'll find one for $10k--of course it'll have about 200k miles on it, salvage title, and would need a complete overhaul.

thats what you would think, but it is not the case. i just did a quick search on autotrader and there are plenty in that price range with just over 100k on them.
that being said, the nice ones are still going for like 16-18k.

You and i are/were in the same boat, i really wanted an R, and with around 10-12k to spend i started a WTB thread for one, basically with this kind of money you are looking at salvage/high mileage/ beat up cars. as of now i really don't want an R anymore, theft in the bay area= way to high.( if anyone is selling an r, feel free to pm me) . Just like you, i to am looking for an e36 m3. with around 10k, i have noticed a pattern that the car will always have around 100-150k miles, or be salvaged. your best bet is to wait around until you have 15k or more saved up as this is the price range that cars that are lower mileage and not as beaten cost.

And my cousin won $400k tax free in a lottery.

What useful information can you deduce from both facts?

I don't understand why salvage titles turn people off so much. Whats wrong with a salvage title?

Over the summer I purchased my 2001 PY ITR for 13,200 with 32k miles. It was theft recovery, but it has a clean title. I'm sure you can find a good deal for one, but patience is virtue

i think a lot of the time people are more concerned with the salvage title simply because of it being in a wreck.

personally i would never buy a crashed car...

as far as theft salvage... well im all for that!

Other option.

1. Get job.
2. Save up a few thousand.
3. Buy a mint, single owner R.

patience wait for the right car to come along. Personally I wouldn't want a high mileage beat up R, you will end up spending just as much overhaulin it and repairing all the things that are damaged and then after all your hard work you still might not have a decently running car.

startin off with a good platform is key for me. Unless you are planning to strip the car and build it from the ground up I would definitely just save up for a little longer and buy a clean R

chances are good
as mileage increases, as does age, cars get cheaper. since a lot of itrs are being sold now, especially with the mileage, the value is getting less and less. You also have to factor in the fact that type r's aren't as wanted as back in the day.

i am 18 years old and work in a restaurant and make more money than i know what to do with. the problem is that im going to college next year and i am required by my parents to save most of the money i make, and therefore they will not allow me to spend more than 10k, so that is where the limit comes from.
i know the caR for me is out there, but being patient sucks!
