Are Type R's Overrated?

Re: Are Type R's Overrated?
They are a great track car, but the cost to buy one now is way to much simply because of how rare they are. That's why I put a full type r engine into my ej coupe and nice one piece suspension for a quarter of the price. I always have liked the integra type r but I can't see paying what they are going for nowadays. That's amount of money can get you a crazy build for a civic instead.
Point being, it is easy to eclipse the performance of any car...but that's not what makes a car collectable or enjoyable. A 1960 Ferrari California sold for $11 million dollars, yet a V6 Accord will spank it.
If you justify your "build" being as good or better, then you just don't "get it" and probably never will.

And you can buy a clapped out 90's Camaro for $2500 and throw NOS on it and be faster than most/all new BMW's.

Re: Are Type R's Overrated?
There is really no other limited run Japanese import vehicles that made it to North America between say 1990-2005... at least nothing I can think of. Cars that I feel have similar hype to the ITR, at least in terms of Japanese vehicles? NSX, Supra TT, Nismo 350Z (maybe?), and S2000 CR.
Those who say they are overrated will eat their words when one finally sells for $50k+ at an auction.

Re: Are Type R's Overrated?
When I drive my 03 Dodge Caravan (got it for free BTW - would not have actually spent my own money on it), I am constantly thinking I would rather be driving every other car I see on the road.
When I drive the ITR, I am rarely thinking about anything other than the amazing sensory experience. But I can honestly say there is virtually no other car I see that I would rather be driving. I have driven all sorts of modern performance cars and you just can't get this somewhere else.
The only question = is 'this' for you? Just like anything, if the answer is yes, then you will be willing to pay to play.

As I said before, you obviously just don't get it. Frankly I'm not sure why you're trolling in the ITR forum other than to tell folks that you feel your swapped hatchcrap is a better value. To each their own, indeed.
Do you think guys with M3 motors in their 318i's troll the E36 M3 lightweight people using your same logic?

Re: Are Type R's Overrated?
idk. ive always wanted to own a type R since my uncle purchased his first GSR back when i was a freshman in highschool. thats when i started getting interested in integras and they will always be my favorite care produced by honda. and the type R still gets me excited when i rarely see them in the street.
im 28 now and i still would LOVE to own one. but you know for now my GSR still puts a big smile on my face whenever i do drive it. ive worked on it for the past 3 years and all the mods and things i put into i always tell myself, "it still isnt a type R" :[

Everybody will have their own opinions. To me, anything made after the EK and DC platform is garbage and I refuse to buy anything newer.
The wife loves her 05 CRV though.

i dont even consider the RSX an integra. they didnt do much to the body, height, width, length.. but it just looks too bulky and i feel its lost its low to the ground smooth body style.

Re: Are Type R's Overrated?
I'm 35, and no I do not consider the Type-R to be 'overrated'.
Could I go out and spend similar money and end up with a clean STI or EVO? Sure, but the driving experience I have had with my ITR is second to none.
First, the ITR is exclusive, sure you can build a 'tribute' Integra, but my experience has shown that the ITR is unique among all Hondas. I've been in dozens, on the track, I've driven many as well.
Just look at the recent comparison one of the big magazines did comparing the ITR to a brand new Civic Si. The crazy thing is almost 20 years later, the ITR STILL held it's own, I venture to say that a stock E30 M3 can't do that anymore.
The wonderful thing about the car is that to those who know what it is and are mature enough, it will ALWAYS be respected, you have to remember that the reason these cars even exist, were to go racing. Honda lost money on EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. that rolled off the assembly line.

In my opinion, no they most certainly aren't in stock form. Is modifying them overated? Probably yes, as chances are you'll make the car "worse" buy just throwing money at bolt ons and fancy parts.

I wouldn't consider it overrated. But if you own one or have driven one you would consider it a true driving machine. In lame in terms "its one fun *** car to drive!!"

Re: Are Type R's Overrated?
They're under rated in terms of driving enjoyment and experience. Just like any Honda. You really have to drive one to appreciate it.
It used to be over rated in terms of performance back around the early 2000's when it was rumored to be ridiculously fast. Although...even then...it would beat the **** out of a V8 mustang in every way.
There aren't that many ridiculously fast ITR's even today. People like to preserve them and enjoy them in close to stock form. Which is admirable...and would be my perogative with the car as well.
Having a fast car is over rated lol. Having a fun car that is engaging enough that you'd want to own it for 10+ years is under rated.
Now everyone wants a 850,000,000hp car that they're going to get bored/frustrated with and sell within 2 years.

Re: Are Type R's Overrated?
It's still very much a relevant car today. For an enthusiast, the R hits all of the right points for a sports car with great utility to boot. I average between 28-32MPG as well! One of the only downsides are the high theft rates. To me, the R is a piece of Honda history, so no, it's not overrated.

Re: Are Type R's Overrated?
US market Integra Type R's are not overrated. They were a groundbreaking car when they were introduced here for the 1997 model year. They basically rewrote the rules for 4cyl, fwd performance. The two biggest problems US Type R's have/had is #1 the riff raff the car attracts and #2 that Honda abandoned the ITR faithful in '01 and went in a decidedly more "plain vanilla" direction with both the Acura and Honda model line ups. The only other car that came close to offering FWD performance like a DC2 R was the 2002-2003 Mazdaspeed Protege. IMHO
