Type R Value Opinion
I did use the search function and I was unable to find a pricing guide for the Type R. Would anyone consider to providing some general price ranges for a stock clean title type R?
I have been looking mostly at cars between 60k-85k miles. The prices people are asking are all over the place depending on where you look. I am trying to get an idea of what these cars actually sell for. It seems to me, that anything over 15k takes a long time to sell. Thank you in advance!

Re: Type R Value Opinion
There is no pricing guide when it comes to the ITR, especially on a forum where all the owners are enthuiasts. The price is typically set based off of authenticity, condition and mileage, then as close of a number as the owner can get to the price they're willing to let the car go for. From my experience with these cars, the owners hold a lot of sentimental value in them, the ITR is not just some mass produced Civic that you can buy at any dealership, and the ITR also becomes more rare every single year.
To give you a simple, direct answer, I'd say that ITR's with >85k on the clock go anywhere from 12k on. A 1997 in mint condition with 65k would go for as close to 20k, or higher.
These cars can mostly only be purchased with cash, how much cash are you willing to blow on a 15 year or older Acura? The prices with these cars vary so much because they're either reasonably priced to sell in the general market, or are being sold at a number at which it is actually worth to an enthuiast, as if the ITR has it's own market.

What PaulMc said
If you want to try a fun exercise, go do the math of all the ITR parts sold separately. You can find a lot of ITR parts (that were exclusive to and indicative of an R) for sale
Shell
Motor & Tranny
Wheels
Seats
Suspension
Exhaust
not to mention all the detailed interior like climate control, center consoles, and floor mats
(that list is by no means comprehensive, but you get the point)
Add all those up, now add sentimental value to the car
As you'll see, the range would be pretty wide depending on the wear and condition of everything. Plus just the geographical market
All that to say, what's it worth to you?
I will say this: the ITR is one of the few "affordable" cars that will retain it's value... if you buy one now and total it in 5 years, you'll probably get most of your money back... just saying

PaulMC, I asked this question not to imply the ITR was just another mass produced car, but to get some insight into general value range. Buyers guides are avalible on many other forums including ones that focus on cars that are limited production and are much more exepnsive. I do appreciate that you gave me some ideas on value.
Ender Ho- I worked in a manufacturing facility for 5 years. Almost all items are more expensive to replicate if each part was purchased independently. If you went down to a Toyota Dealer and purchased all the parts that make up a Toyota Tacoma, it would propbably cost $50k . Does this mean that a Toyota Tacoma is worth 50k? There will always be those people who are emotionally attached to their possesions and if they are not able to find a willing and able buyer at their chosen price, they will not sell. In saying this, these people do not represent the market value as the prices they are asking do not result in a sale.

Re: Type R Value Opinion
like both the guys mentioned above...it really comes to year (97Rs pull more as they are the rarest), mileage, condition, and mods.
then factor in originality. from what i see, the more original untouched R's tend to pull more than a modified R. as i person that just went through this process, i know what you're dealing with. i basically set two price ranges for myself, $8-11k for modified and $11 and up for a basically stock low mileage R.
i ended up with the latter, i feel like i bought my car at a good price given the work it needs.
also, itrexpo is a good resource. most the guys on that forum own multiple R's and have been involved with the cars since they were available.

Re: Type R Value Opinion
ITR pricing has started to resemble E30 and E36 M3 pricing. Mileage and condition are everything, but even the beat cars still retain some decent value.
Also, there are a lot of salvage titled cars out there and those will skew pricing as well. That's an instant 30% hit or more. And multiple owners is sometimes scary because usually one of them will have attempted some ill-planned mods.
As with collectors items...buy the best one that you can and it'll be the one to hold value the best.

918TastyGarage and Todd00 Thank you for your insight. I am really looking forward to buying one. Although, currently, most of the cars I have seen advertised for sale are on the more abused end of the spectrum.

Re: Type R Value Opinion
Todd00 last statement is the truth.
buy the best one you can, and it will hold the most value.
it comes without saying, consider the use of the car. track car, might be better to find one with some mods, or unoriginal. if for collecting or just a stock weekender, something cleaner might be your best bet..
i bought one that i rarely drive being the miles and condition, knowing that now, as soon as im able, id love to pick up a high mileage R to daily in

You're talking about a car that is both legendary and rare.
You may be finding a wide range of prices for the ITR, but trust me, sometimes you may not be able to to find an ITR for sale at all.
Value is completely subjective. Why is a diamond worth more than water when water gives life and a diamond just sits there and look pretty? Because of the beauty it holds in the eye of the beholder

Re: Type R Value Opinion
That type R looks nice. I imagine this car will sell for around 19-20k. Once the prices get to 20k there are other cars I would seriously consider. An evo 9 would be high on that list. Nothing against this type R, just a lot more room for growth with that platform.

Re: Type R Value Opinion
No Christmas visits or anything and the ITR doesn't come up as a topic of discussion? Heck, I gave my dad a coat once and then asked about it a few months later to see if he was able to use it.
Just seems strange. Anyone know that seller/car (#01-1036)?

Re: Type R Value Opinion
I read over on ITRCA that the registery indicates that this car had 150k miles and was stolen in CA back in 2010. I am a bit skeptical about the accuracy of the registry though. As I have seen conflicting information on more than one car. I believe a thourough PPI would be in order for the purchase of any second hand performance car in this price range or above.

Even an 01 Integra LS in another auction showed the original title being issued back in '01. Maybe this is normal though, but I wouldn't think so.
The number plate/lid was probably "stolen" as well and the seller found this one on ebay and replaced it. So it probably wasn't just the badges and shiftknob.
Still sketchy though.

Re: Type R Value Opinion
That's an odd description in that auction. Who gives a car back to their dad and doesn't realize until 10 years later that dad still has it?

4 years ago i went to look at a black type r at van chevrolet in scottsdale which is right around the area this type r is located
the salesman gave me a similar story of the dad bought the type r for the kid and then rescinded it and let it sit for years in the garage. someone in the family got sick or something to that nature and the type r was traded in on some chevy product
unfortunately i didnt get any more specifics on the car as the salesman was a dick and didnt want to deal at all on the car

Being discussed here as well:
ITR Expo Forums: 2001 low milage eBay find
And that's really funny about that story being it's exactly the same and in the same location.
If anyone has a carfax or autocheck account, PM me.

I saw it come up on VwVortex and figured it would be here too. 3 threads, and lots of questions, but bidding still going. Curious to see what the answer is in the end.

Re: Type R Value Opinion
Not too surprising really. There was that NY shitbox that was a (prior) rusty mess and it went for something like $15k+ on eBay... I still feel bad for whomever it was who bought that one. :sadbanana:

The thing with the ITR is there's almost no other cars like it.
A car from the factory designed to be raced?
Made by Honda no less?
Nothing else is a sure fire classic like that.
