Treated the R to some new shoes today.
Finally got my tracking # from Rota today. Black slips will be here Monday with tires right behind them. Time to convert this ride over to my taste.

Re: Treated the R to some new shoes today.
Slips were so popular back in the early 2000's. They don't bother me but a lot of ppl here frown at putting them on a R. So what kind/size tires?

Dunlop 205 40 16's. The slips were the only thing that I could find that looked like they belong on the car. I still have the CW factory wheels too. Something to switch in and out from time to time.

Not sure why you chose to tell us this, but to each their own I suppose.
And 205/40/16's are way too short. That's going to look silly.

This thread is worthless without pics (of the tracking number).
Also, stock wheels look like they belong on the car

And you could have gotten RPF1's, they look good on ANY car, only slightly more expensive than Slips, and much better quality.

Re: Treated the R to some new shoes today.
Otherwise, we've seen hundreds pics of ITRs with slipstreams on them. As has been said before, Spoon SW388's are ugly but very functional (light and strong). Slipstreams are just as ugly, but weaker and not as light. I had SW388's for my 4th gen Civic Si back in the day. Never owned a Rota as there was always a stronger and/or lighter option available.
I agree with just a noob too. RPF1 in black would be lighter and stronger and not cost a whole lot more. Black wheels really don't look that good on a white car anyways, truth be told (but they are functional). This 'look' seems to be a left-over fad from the early 90's when black was the "new JDM".

n00b i wasn't bashing anyone I just posted something and he poped off on me. I am bad to change wheels from time to time so next go around I will look at the RPF1.
When you have a family to provide for SW388,s are out of the question. If you saw what the previous owner has on it you would know I am going in a good direction with it. I could be sayin' I am throwing a set of 18" chrome wheels on it with air ride, and led windshield squirters. Then I would expect one of you to put a bullet in my head. But I have no beef with Todd. I just pop back that's all.

This is why there is no shame in running the OEM wheel. It looks good and it functions well with the car.
I always tell folks to save up until you can buy something superior. Different is not necessarily better.

Different might be better in this case seeing how this is what I'm rolling with at the time. The guy I bought the car from was stationed in Germany so the factory's have snow tires on them. It's a requirement over there to have snow tires so he had them mounted on the fac's. BTW is the finish on the factory wheels paint or powder coat. Being the fallbacks they have been neglected and are stained with brake dust that I have found impossible to remove unless someone has a tip..

I like RPF1s, but I'll run Slips on an ITR any day of the week.. in fact I have a set in the garage.
I've abused the hell out of Rota's for years without any issues.

Yes. This is part of their functional appeal and why Spoon went with a flat-black on their sw-388. I find it hilarious that 'look' became a trend and made its way onto street cars.
Now we have folks rolling around with black rotas that neither look good nor are they as strong as the real thing (or even the OEM wheel itself).
I just don't see the appeal, especially with so many other better looking wheels available. Heck, even better colors available in the same wheel. At least if you run a knock-off wheel on the street, choose an original color.

They're generally dirt cheap, I just bought a set for my R with Re-11's (100 miles of street use) lugs and hubcenteric rings for 550. Hell the tires are like 140 a piece before shipping plus install. Then I would only have my OEM wheels and track tires as a daily. Thats exactly why i bought mine, their not heavy as hell (are they light, no but not heavy), they're cheap, and there are a million out there that buy and sell regulary. If i break one, i get replace it under 100 pratically and still sell them for 300 when i'm done with them.
Would I buy brand new ones, probably not, but their are plenty of reason to buy "played out" slips.

Re: Treated the R to some new shoes today.
Two ways to view that, OEM wheels are better to track than real "race" wheels =
Or Oem on your daily is better than overrated "race" wheels=
Thus either conclusion leads my decision that "fake" wheels with excellent track tires are better than OEM wheels if your going to track/destroy them and want your oem for daily cruising with a moderate all season tire.

Rather, we're poking fun of the folks who "upgrade" to Rotas as a daily driven wheel. Especially when there are a ton of better looking non-knockoffs out there.

Re: Treated the R to some new shoes today.
Bah...this is an opinion thread now. IMO, black wheels look good on any color car. Definitely hide the brake dust well. As far as quality....there is nothing wrong with Slipstreams. Mine have nearly 25k track miles, and many more DD miles and they are still straight and true.....and look damn good.
The Slips were definitely an upgrade from the crap that was on this caR....IMO
