Default Oil Question synthetic? Type R

I’m running mobile one full synthetic right now on my ITR but I was thinking about going back to a non-synthetic. I heard that ones you go synthetic you couldn’t go back, does anyone know if this is true? It’s been on synthetic since the first oil change.

Why do you feel the need to change? Did someone tell you that natural oil gives you more whp or something?

I drove 1600 miles and the R used so much oil and I wanted to see if a non-synthetic would do the some.

Switching from synthetic to dino will not solve consumption.

But you can go back regardless of what some say that you should only use one or the other. I've read both sides of the fence and haven't found any proof that if you switched back that you'd do any damage.

Here is a very good resource for any of your oil questions: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

If you do switch do a full change of the same viscosity and swap out the filter, but again this won't solve a consumption issue and even blending Synth and Dino oils is a possibility and done manually by the general consumer for longer intervals between changes.

mobil burns.
if you're going mobil, try the 0w40.
or, use castrol 0w30 and see how u like it.
personally i use castrol's 10w30 syntec blend (conventional/sythetic)
if you're going conventional, try penzoil

Personally, I wouldnt use any of the smaller oils like royal purple or redline. I did test with redline and it did 3x more wear then mobil1.

What weight oil do you use, and how much do you burn?

hey buddy.. i had the same problem in my 2000 R... its because the mobile oil is very thin... I switch to the castrol fully synthetic oil and it almost burns no oil at all.

also if your running 5-30 try switching to 10-30 also helps with oil consumption when you start up the car... being its thicker it wont burn with the motor is cold.

That's funny; some other people claim the same thing about switching from non-synthetic to synthetic.

I don't believe either one is true. You can switch back and forth without any problems.

Agreed!

And read the link I posted above where the theories are tested and not just speculated upon.

you will be fine.

but you will have a problem changing back to syn.

since syn oils are thin and light, it will leak from the engine. IF you were running for reg oil for a longtime.

Chill with the VTEC and you will burn less oil.

So you're saying Vtec alone eats up oil?

And not using Vtec will solve his consumption?

Or you just felt compelled to post something followed by a .

WOW all the misinformation in this post is amazing.

Sorry VTEC isn't the sole reason he can be burning oil but something that wasn't mentioned thus far.. worth a shot.

How many ITR owners here actually use synthetic v.s. regular oil?

there is a costly price difference so i was just wondering.

I use synthetic, and only synthetic however I change it at 3,000 mile increments and i wonder if i should just use regular.

5k miles ago I did and this past weekend the motor went. I'll never make that mistake again!

I don't care what you poeple think! That was the cause of the failure. I never did it before and never had a problem. this one time...

Argue all you want, My old AE86 is still running at 240,000+ miles and since day one it had Mobil 1 5/30 and the never missed a beat.

started off when i first got the car, at 89kmiles, changed the oil the first day to moble 5w synthetic.

4000 miles later, changed it to some vavoline dino oil.

4000 miles later used some vavoline max life oil.

4000 miles later i used castro synthetic oil

4000 miles later, went to jiffly lube

and today, im using castro synthic.

car still running smooth.

Is this your ITR motor that went? Possibly from other factors outside of the oil switch?
