Stolen: My ITR.
Happened between 8p Monday night and 1p Tuesday afternoon. That is when I walked outside to an empty parking spot where #1013 used to be.
Filed police report, but I think they are more interested in the possibility of fraud than in finding the car. I guess I understand but it just guarantees I will never see it again.
I live in a very nice neighborhood with constant police presence...I didn't think it would be a problem here.
I'll still be in here, as I have moderating duties to perform, and I'm probably still gonna go to EXPO. That's mostly why I'm making this thread: so I will only have to tell this story maybe 10 times instead of 100.
I'd like to thank this forum for all its help, from the bottom of my heart. My ownership experience would not have been the same without all of the information and friends I have gathered from being in here. It was Honda-Tech that made me sure I wanted to buy the car (ever since I first saw Warren ****'s '97 tearing around DC before he even owned it), it was Honda-Tech that showed me how to treat it, and it was Honda-Tech that made me decide to keep it all this time.
A special thanks to Victor Perri who took the initiative after my very first post to invite me to that Speedtrials event in 2001. That's where I met Bryan, Corey, George, and went from being an isolated owner of a hot car to a member of a truly special community. I count a lot of you guys as friends - real friends, not just people I associate with when it's time to talk cars. I remember Rob/BBasso calling me when I had my appendix out, and being moved to tears when I returned home to see the thread about it.
I had great times with this car - lots of white-knuckle moments on-track, great fun at EXPO, Rob's Thanksgiving meets, and generally enjoying life as a young twentysomething with the best-handling FWD car ever at his disposal. It was a perfect car for me at that stage of life, and I would have kept it until I was old and bald (more so than I am now).
I'm trying to be mature, detached, and philosophical about this, but it's a little hard. I bought this car before it even left Japan when I was 19 years old, and have had it ever since. It would be a little easier to take if I was the second or third owner, and the car wasn't in such good shape. But this was mine alone; no one had so much as farted in the driver's seat but me.
It had less than 50K on it and had never been abused or modded (intake/header/exhaust excluded). It's weird to say you "love" an inanimate object, so I won't. But I will say that it fit into my life perfectly and became a source of extreme joys and thrills in the six-plus years I owned it.
I can't think of another car I'd rather drive, and part of me just doesn't even want to bother with buying a fun car because it just won't be the same. Most of you know how much I supported the idea of the "ITR mystique," and dismissed the "It's just a car/Integra/Civic" talk as total BS. This is more than a car, it's a weapon that will embarrass more expensive and nominally superior machines. We threw around the metaphor of "bringing a knife to a gunfight," but the ITR isn't just a knife. It's a freaking lightsaber.
Again, guys, thanks for the memories, the help, and for your friendship. I'll be around, and yes, I'll keep abreast of FS threads. I won't be ready to buy another R immediately; I'll probably buy a beater and save for a house/condo with a more secure parking situation. But I will be back, I am sure of it. We always come back. Hopefully there will always be ITRs to come back to.
This goes without saying, but VA/MD/DC/DE people, please keep an eye out for ITR stuff on the cheap. My car was totally stock save the brake pads and Comptech Icebox, but maybe I'll get lucky and someone will slip up.
RIP #1013

Sorry to hear. It's rare that an OG loses one these days.
Every time I start to miss #009 a little bit, I read threads like this and know I made the right decision to move on.
