Interesting. I just sent a letter to Mobil asking them to validate these claims. I'm pretty sure it will get ignored however.

This is in the wrong forum regardless....

I read that a few months ago and switched to Royal Purple.

I burn too much oil with Mobile 1 anyway.

Where do you buy that oil from? From reading that thread, it seems like some people have been having some problems tracking it down.

I've seen many oil analysis results from Mobile 1 0W40 that had been in engines for well over 6K miles w/no negative results. I'd personally like to know who did the analysis on that thread. I'm not trying to dispute that M1 is a full syn or not, I use Amsoil personally.

Does the Mobil 1 Extended Performance meet GF-4 specifications? How did the new specification impact the development of the high-endurance product line?

Mobil 1 Extended Performance contains an extra performance additive to help deliver exceptional performance and protection. This fully synthetic technology is designed specifically for longer service intervals. Appropriate viscosities of Mobil 1 Extended Performance also meet all the requirements for GF-4. Additionally, they exceed the requirements of API SL/CF and various ACEA (European) specifications. (Updated March 2006)

Is Mobil 1 with SuperSyn Technology a fully synthetic motor oil?

Yes, it is. To meet the demanding requirements of today's specifications (and our customers' expectations), Mobil 1 with SuperSyn uses high-performance fluids, including polyalphaolefins (PAOs), along with a proprietary system of additives. Each Mobil 1 with SuperSyn viscosity grade uses a unique combination of synthetic fluids and selected additives in order to tailor the viscosity grade to its specific application.

found an article doing a search, but it was dated from back in 2000? http://www.oilsandlube.com/syn...w.htm
Is it just the bottles labled try synthetic from mobil one, or both try and fully synthetic labled bottles that are using the crude? How long has this been going on? Since I am in Germany, I buy oil on the base. I am thinking maybe I am getting older oil for now. Oil on the economy is crazzy expensive (about 18.75 US a quart). I will have to look into extended oil change intervals. My wifes 07 530i holds around 7 quarts, and has a recomended interval of 15k miles. I have been changing it with Mobil 1 every 5k miles, and the ITR every 3k miles. The damn oil companies are already *** raping us at the pump, and now they want to decive the consumer with this crap.

That totally didn't give me a yes or no to my question.

So then I guess that means it's no longer 100% synthetic?

Eh, I just buy the 12 quart pack of Castrol 5w30 at Advance Auto Parts... I've never really cared that much about oil, I just change it every 3,000 with the same stuff.

Should I? I've been thinking about going with Royal Purple lately.

I read in another car forum that you should use the high milage mobil 1 synthetic if you want the real deal.

x2

Autozone has it.

Please note, it's not always in stock at some locations, and you have to check the label carefully, as Autobone caries both the 'plain' and the German varieties. Check the archives for the label of the German stuff, I'm too lazy to go out and check my stock.

For you lazy bums, if I recall, it's the green upper left on the front label, and "Porsche Approved" on the back label fine print.

GC is great stuff. I burned a lot of Mobil1 5w-30 in my RSX-S, switched to GC and it's gone through WAY less. Now I just need to find an AZ in my area that carries it again...!

So what exactly is the disadvantage to us Mobil 1 users now that the formula isn't 100% synthetic? Is the difference between 100% synthetic and 95% enough to change oils?

<---- trying to understand why all this even matters ....

I still change my oil every 2800-3000 miles, but have been running Mobil 1 10/30 since the car had 0 miles on it...

According to that post at my305z, the results from a UOA on those Vq35 motors (infinity G35) running the new blend from Mobil 1 shows an increase in iron and lead deposits.

This means an increase in wear on the internals of the motor.

What does this mean to our B series motors? Well, without running a UOA on a few cars, no one knows. I think it comes down to making a decision to continue running it and taking the risk or just changing to another oil that is still a full synthetic.

As I recall, the bottle that says "Euro Formula" is 5w40. Its been a while though. Made in belgium.

In any event, as long as it says "MADE IN GERMANY" on the back then you are indeed getting the German full syn 0w30, which I agree, is excellent oil.
