Like what? No one is saying ALL Evos will break. Just that a non-trivial amount of them has.

I'm a harcore honda fan, but my other car is an 05' MR. to put it simply, at the track even a heavily modded honda can't keep up given equal driver skill.

case in point, my shop built a k20a eg putting down 239 whp on church's dynopak. full cage, nascar bars, tien RS shock ect. on azenis at streets of willow it ran 1:31.

the EVO MR with a reflash computer and toyo RA1's ran 1:29. same driver.

the fastest evo that day ran 1:24 sandbagging.

but all things said, the MR is really expensive to track. it used up 1 1/2 tank fulls of 100 octane last time i was at button willow. the tires get worn down fast. i'm at 10k and they need replacement.

overall, i am very happy with my EVO. haven't had any problems with it.

I remember when i first started driving it... how it reminded me of a turbo integra w/ a old skool drag kit on 7 psi. except without the horrendous understeer.

Just to make that worthful, R-comps are worth 1-2 sec per lap. Given that, sounds like very similar times.

Tough decision. I much rather get a STI over an Evo, but the price on the Evo is so tempting. If I do plan on getting it, a plane ticket will be purchased for an early departure this coming Saturday.

Stop street racing.

But yeah, 300 WHP in a 2600 lb car is wicked fast, no matter how you look at it.

Turbo the R!!

Do you really have any reason to say that, other than:
1) You've never heard of it
2) You don't like something that someone affiliated with the shop said on the INTERNET?!

Damn you, flame war starter!

The EVO is a great car but I would be hesistant to buy one because of all the problems that they have been having. For example, go to evolutionm.net and look up threads on how long their clutches or lasting. Reguardless of how they use their car, they shouldn't be burning so fast IMO. Also, with the dealerships, they are going to the extremes to void people's warrenties, as well as the mentioned coverups. Furthermore, it's been rumored for a while now that Mitsu is on the verge of collapse. With all that said, I'd be very hesistant to buy an EVO. I'd probably get an STi, they don't seem to be having as many reliabilty problems.

Yes if you do go onto evom.net there will be problems, but more than half of those guys have their warranty voided anyways. I have yet to speak with an near stock evo owner who's got a troublesome car, hell i have yet to speak with any evo owner who's had trouble.

Even so, more than half the evo guys on evom.net are drag racers anyway. Don't you think awd launches are hard on any clutch? I'm still on the stock clutch @20,000 miles.

Think about why clutches have problems in the first place, then apply it to awd and 600 more pounds.

I owned an EVO for about 3-4 months and then sold it because of the problems it was giving me. Buy at your own risk. I'd say about 50% of EVO owners aren't experiencing any major problems. Just checkup on http://www.evolutionm.net and search. Guarantee you will find threads saying "mitsu customer service sucks!", "my t-case is broke!" "car stalled in the middle of the road!", etc...

Aside from all the problems, the EVO is wickedly fast in a straight line and around corners. Lots of fun to drive

Great.... this just goes to show how childish you are. What did I ever do to you? I am sorry you feel that way. Since I don't know you and you don't know me, do me a favor and please stay far far away from my shop.

Any how this thread has nothing to do with me and my shop and I am sorry to even mentioned it in the first place knowing how some of you in here are so hypocritical. I am being flamed and destroyed for simply pointing out a different perspective about the Evo. (I will re-edit all previous threads involving this situation and delete it to stop the flaming)

I am asking kindly to please be mature about this thread and stop flaming me, there is no point in it. Get back to what this thread is really about.

People who hate on EVOs are like the people who hate on FD3Ss, they don’t know anything about the car so they hate on it. There is a **** load of people buying evo's that don’t understand the first thing about the car or how high maintenance it is, so they break it and call the car a piece of ****..Just like it happened with the fd3s.

-If you can’t afford expensive brake pads, very frequent oil changes, differential oil changes, tire changes, clutch changes, tranny fluid changes don’t get one.

-If you recently started driving stick shift don’t blame the tranny for grinding.

-If you are going to drive it like and ******* and do clutch drops all over the place don’t cry when your differential breaks.

-If you are going to mod the **** out of it don’t cry when the dealership voids your warranty.

-What did you expect from a high performance awd turbo car, Honda civic reliability? I don’t see Honda or Toyota selling cars like these in the US, that would just take away from their legendary reliability.

Vishnu ran kicked *** all over one lap of America in his 550whp Evo without a single problem.

Hey u guy stop bashing the Evo!!!
Yes i own a 04 Evo. I have alot of respect for the ITR and of course i really like the ITR as well.

I had 10500 miles on it so far. (Catback and downpipe, TT and that's all the mod so far)
Evo warranty. Yes, the service department is very chessy, they will try everything to "not to fix your motor under warranty".

2nd. WHO WOULD DRAG LAUNCH with (4000rpm or + drop the clutch!!)... If u do, don't complain about the tranny break, because u DESERVED IT!!!....It's a AWD, u don't LAUNCH!! SIMPLE

3rd. Yes the Clutch is also kinda chessy. It's not as easy to "start" from a stop as other stick shift that i driven b4. And also people who are stupid enough to launch. This will definitely wears out first!!!

4th. The handling is no match, although i never driven a ITR. But the steering of this vehicle is incredible!!!.

It's a 4g63....The motor is "proofed"....The Sti---we will SEE!!....

This can be a daily driven car... But it's not gonna be as comfortable as not turboed car. NA. But 30 grand for a car that is up to par with a 100g car. I say it's a steal!!!!

That is the worst example you could have used to prove your point. I suppose all of the FD's blowing their apex seals and catching on fire were ALL user error. Its not like there were any recalls or admitted manufacturer defects that were to blame...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by i 4 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Vishnu ran kicked *** all over one lap of America in his 550whp Evo without a single problem.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Yep, and the same guys couldn't finish the NASA 25 hour, so what's your point? Not to mention the fact that a professional shop with the resources of Vishnu as well as direct technical advice from Mitsu is going to fair just a wee bit better than the average consumer who buys the car. For that matter what about all the Evos that didn't finish OTC last year?

I will not say the Evo is a piece of **** because it isn't. Its one of the best performance values on the market. But its also a car that has documented issues as well as being made by a less than scrupulous company with a less than stellar dealer network. If those things don't matter to you by all means buy an Evo. There are plenty of people who don't have any problems at all.

But if you bought one and ended up having all of these problems would it still be worth it? Do you have $2k laying around for when your transfer case fails? Will you be happy when your turbo blows so you can get a bigger one? Yes? More power to you. No? The Evo may not be for you.

Whats funny is when I was looking at Evos (because they were on sale ) the salesman himself said, and i quote, "the clutch is ****" And then also told me that if I put an exhaust on it, that it would void my warranty. on him for saying those things while trying to sell me the car.... but at least he was honest and teling the truth

They have the exact same problems with the EVO 7 and 8 in Europe.
I have driven a brand new EVO 7, the tranny was grinding like ****.... Especially the 4th gear.

What? It's not gonna be as comfortable as not turboed car? NA? Are you even 16? I find it hard to believe you can drive if you can't even convey a thought. 30 grand for a 100g car? Really? How do you figure that? 100g cars better last longer than that...

.....
1) i am not trying to flame anyone.

2.) U obviously haven't driven an Evo b4. Evo suspension is really shitty on bumpy road, u can feel every bump on the road. (very uncomfortable).
Evo also has low torque. under 3000 rpm it has less than 100 whp stock. (which mean u have to use the TURBO!!!). And yes is loud as heck with a Turbo-back system like mine. I don't like the idea of being ricy loud during regular driving. )

3.) If u don't believe i own an Evo. I could really care less. Not trying to show off or anything. Just let u know i am go by Tonykwok on the http://forum.evolutionforums.com/ and u can view my ride there.

4.) I am a big Evo fan. And in fact Evo has many good qualities that meet "best bang for the buck" . It handle better than alot of 100grand cars. And 0-60 also are very very quick. (yeah that's right: dig out your old car mags and start reading the #s.)

5.) I've never regret buying the Evo. Why? Because i am a big fan of the Evo WAY back when i was 7 in Hong Kong.

6.) Sry i am not 16, i am 19. Nice TRY!

Alright. last but not least peace... English is not my first language so my grammar is not good, i admit that!!!

Kingpin's GT35R kit has made over 500whp on a stock STi engine, look for the thread at NASIOC. However, who knows how long it will last.
