Default Quiet exhaust....

As i am getting older, the spoon N1 is getting a bit too loud for my liking. It's time to move to something a little quieter. Currently, i have a JDM 4-1, JDM cat, spoon B-pipe, and spoon N1 axleback. I will like to reuse my b-pipe and from my research, the only bolt on mufflers are spoon sport exhaust or the OEM muffler.....is there another option i missed?

I also hear that RSR ex-mag and Apexi WS2 is rather quiet but these are catback systems. Can anyone comfirm are these systems JDM length or USDM length? I already know that the mugen TL is JDM length but i really don't want to fork out the cash that.

Thanks.

Fujitsubo RM01A

or

Mugen twin loop

are the quiet ones and still offer gains over stock.

Both of these systems are really nice (had the TL on my EK hatch before) but i really can't justify the cash for these systems right now.

Doesn't the Spoon N1 exhaust have an optional insert to help quiet things down or is that not enough?

Mine came with it. I thought it was a big difference unless I was hammering on it at from 7-10k rpm

what is your budget?

I can't speak for the rsr myself personally but I have been constantly reminded from forum members that it achieves two important qualities, quiet and retains stock appearance. I have heard similar comments about the apexi ws as well.

I am currently on a Fujitsubo RM01A setup running JRSC (previous owner of a 1st gen greddy evo) and absolutely love it. It is amazingly quiet (im sure those dual resonators on the bpipe have a lot to do with it) until you smash it towards the higher rpms to redline. By no means does it appear stock (to much bling), but at the same time the canister doesn't have an overwhelmingly large opening compared to other aftermarket systems. I purchased mine a few years ago used from HT for about 580$. It is jdm length so you won't have to worry about fitment or modification. I was really surprised with the workmanship of this exhaust, welds were beautiful, fitment was oem perfect, and best of all sounds so good. I promise I don't work for Fujitsubo.

I would change out the mid pipe as that is half the reason the exhaust is SO loud. I use a Spoon N1 muffler on a Mugen mid pipe and its not really that loud.

Thanks for all the responses. Mugen TL is very good choice (ex-owner here) but the problem is price. I really don't want to spend more than $500ish and i can find a complete cat back Apexi WS2 system for $400, brand new. And as mentioned, i am starting to love the stock looks.

Does anyone know how the Apexi WS2, RSR Ex-mag and spoon sport muffler fair in terms of power?

I heard this combination will NOT work. Was this a bolt on affair? From my research, the flanges between the mugen b-pipe and spoon N1 will not line up.

as for the WS2. i made 220whp/147tq on my B20VTEC with the WS2 and a test pipe of the same size.

i love my WS2 exhaust. had one on my hatchback and was nice. got my R and had a Apex-i N1, was loud as **** and annoying. got a WS2 for it now, so much quieter. but it did seem to kill a little power.

The WS is a good choice as it appears the the EX-MAG is no longer available. However, this is a USDM length system so it will not be a straight bolt affiair even if i decided to go with this system. I think the best choice will be the spoon sport muffler if i were to reuse my b-pipe.

The Mugen mid and Spoon Muff would not be a perfect bolt on, but easy job for any exhaust shop to modify.

I know how you feel. I just sold my Exmag GTII in order to get the WS2. Got married and it was a pain to have a conversation with her even when I had the silencer in. Anyway....

If you go with the WS2, I'll recommend an HT sponsor:

https://honda-tech.com/forums/performance-45/%2A%2A%2Aapexi-world-sport-ii-catback-exhaust-unreal-priced-sale-%2A%2A%2A-1817892/

Just got one for my hatchback from these guys earlier this week. I live in TX and got it the next day after ordering it!
I just have to modify mine because of my motor swap and for my 98 spec header. It'll be USDM fitment. You may have to do some light modification as you have the same header. A flange and a pipe flare I'd guess.

They sell the Exmag as well... but it's more expensive by $120. I would have got that, but that money is going towards a new cat converter.

^always leave it to dave to save the day. if you don't get the mugen TL, the apexi WS2 catback is an awesome choice. as you'll retain everything that you're looking for. just sell the spoon b-pipe with the n1 axle back.
