Question about Expo Rules (safety)
"Roll Bars/Cages: Roll bars are advised for the event, but not required. (In the event a non-ITR participates in the event, this rule will be reviewed.) Any roll bar must be able to withstand the compression forces involved in the supporting the full weight of the car in extremely adverse circumstances. All cars with roll bars and roll cages must meet the NASA CCR requirements, must be mounted correctly according to the NASA CCR, and all roll bars and roll cages must be adequately padded with the correct material."
* Now, does this mean you have to have padding? I know it says it, but I currently have no padding on a roll bar. I can understand adequate padding on a roll cage, but roll bars as well?
"Seatbelts and Harnesses: Seatbelts must be in new or perfect condition. No damage may be present, and they must be factory configuration. Any harness system must be of an approved design, and can be used only in conjunction with approved rollover protection. Driver and passenger should have the identical restraint system."
* Identical meaning same make, model, color, etc... or same point? 4 pt/4pt, 5pt/5pt.
"Seats: All seats must be securely fastened to the structure of the car. Driver and passenger seats should be of the same configuration, preferably exactly the same. Non-stock seats should be FIA certified."
* What if your driver seat is different than that of the passenger? Ex: Recaro driver seat vs. stock passenger seat?
Thanks for the update

Re: Question about Expo Rules (RealTypeR)
gut questions because i'm in the same situation for all three issues you listed
-no padding on the rollbar
-driver 5pt and passenger 6pt
-driver aftermarket seat passenger stock seat
-no padding on the rollbar
-driver 5pt and passenger 6pt
-driver aftermarket seat passenger stock seat

Re: Question about Expo Rules (RealTypeR)
Since I edited the rules for the program ... hehe
1) yes, you need padding in areas where a driver or passenger might contact the tubing.
2) since the rules require a crotch strap, the belts must be at least 5-pt, the same seats do not need to be provided to the passenger/instructor (though it is strongly advised for style points).
3) identical restraint systems ... both have race belts! .... or just OEM belts!

Re: Question about Expo Rules (zygspeed)
Thanks Ed. Shouldn't you be working on your motor?
My instructor will be wearing baby blue harnesses while I'm pimping the black ones.
Can't wait.
Marc ----> who thinks he knows who his instructor is

I think the motor's in the car, the custom tranny needed another gear.

Re: Question about Expo Rules (George Knighton)
ok now we have two differing statements from the powers that be on this subject. i would very much like trey to comment on these questions.
i have never ever heard of any driving school that requires the same brand and design of harness for both passenger and driver. type (oem vs. harness) is one thing but please explain the reasoning for the same brand.
the same goes for the seat. i have never seen a driving school that requires the passenger to have a bucket if the driver does.
my opinion is the belt and seat requirements are completely unrealistic.

Re: Question about Expo Rules (George Knighton)
Would a reclinable Recaro SRD be ok? What about something like a Mugen S1 seat (not FIA)? Having everything exactly the same does sound unrealistic.

Being that ALL of our cars came with identical passenger and driver seatbelts and seats, there is no reason why anyone would be unable to follow the rules for this event.
While I do not necessarily agree with the rules, I do realize that this is not a matter that is up for debate.
It comes down to this:
Abide by the rules laid out by the organizers of the event or don't go on the track.

Re: Question about Expo Rules (George Knighton)
i have removed both my airbags, will that pose a problem?
If you've removed your airbags, I'm assuming you have harnesses and rollover protection?

Re: Question about Expo Rules (BryanSprinkel)
Not the case at all. Every school I have participated in, or instructed for has required the "same" safely equipment for both driver and passenger.

i don't think anyone is questioning the issue of driver side harness and passenger side stock 3pt.

Re: Question about Expo Rules (George Knighton)
Nonetheless, I will sleep on it and consult Trey for a consensus tomorrow morning.
I will speak with George more today on this issue and send out an email if anything changes.
Lance, Seatbelts at a minimum should match. From there a Bucket and a Stock seat are functioning differently and what is the cause for concern. A reclining sparco with deeper bolsters is more likely to get a consideration with the stock seat from what I am getting from things.
Again, I will clarify if something changes.
