Putting a cage in, do I REALLY need the middle brace/stiffener in the ITR?
I believe it's #32, and #33-35 in the picture above. It's the big black piece under the rear seats. Do I actually need this in the car, since I'll be putting a cage in soon?
My R doesn't have it in it currently. And I know of one for sale.. I was just wondering if it was worth buying it. Thanks!

I remember the thread about that peice. It does weigh in at around 50 pounds I think. If possible to keep it out, I would. But then again it is there more so for side impact from what I remember.
Here is a pic of the peice in my R..

Its heavy, I took mine out, and have a cross bar that runs between the feet of the main hoop.

while comparing the USDM and JDM type Rs, Mr Ichishima of Spoon told us that the Japanese spec cars don't have these bars in them. He also didn't recommend taking it out as it added a lot of strength, even though we were talking about race prepped cars with full cages.

Sorry to disappoint you guys, it isn't a cage, that's an AP Rollbar......
And you dont need that black stiffener thingy.

yep.. it is definitely a nice piece, but it's an AutoPower bar, not a full cage.. Steve-o wants to be able to take it out!

I have alot of padding on my AP bar b/c I choose to. I will agree that the padding on the back supports to the rear wheel wells are not really needed, but I had mucho padding so just slapped some on there.
I used as much padding on the bar as I could because I do drive the car on the sreet some and without FIA Buckets and harnesses in along with a Helmet, if a wreck were to occur I would rather have my head or any body part meet a Bar with a tad of padding then none at all....

I'd put padding like that only because I have stuff in the trunk all the time and dont want it banging into the bar, damaging my cargo, etc.
