Re: Potential EXPO dates (Aug 23/24)
It actually wouldn't be a concern at all. We've never had an issue with vehicle theft at an EXPO bc we are up all night keeping an eye on every single car in teh parking lot. Not everyone tracks their cars, and those who dont have to be up for the drivers meeting at the crack of dawn typically end up parytying together all night in the parking lot. You can imagine the consequences of a POS thief getting caught at an event of irate ITR owners, it wouldn't be pretty. ;-)

I would suggest trying to organize as many ITR's (and regular hondas) that you can get together at a local HPDE. If it breaks 90 then let them know. Till then they're going to use their successful formula that has been proven time and time over. Plenty of people from the west, just take a few extra days off work.

Times might have changed, however, and maybe you'd be able to get some of the NASA California people to help swing it. The national president of NASA is in California, and he is a Honda Challenge racer. If you wanted to do an Expo in California in 2011, it would likely be very different and more successful than the events that cause the organisers to want to be East Coast or Midwest focused.
But the key will be to get the active and visible West Coast Honda Challenge people involved.
I heard from someone associated with a fairly famous track trying to get references, so I think they've really decided but don't want to let it out yet, for whatever reason.

Track facillities also usually employ security guards or have an arrangement with local constabulary to provide security. At Summit Point you will see West Virginia State Police, Virginia State Police, and their own private armed security.
Since they train FBI and military at Summit Point, you will most of the time you're there also hear gunfire of some kind in the background at one of the facilities where training is going on at the same time your track event is going on.
There are surprisingly few incidents of criminal behaviour at track events, for various and obvious reasons. :-)

Not if it's held here.
Better still, hold it at one of the tracks Down Under, where it's winter then.

I'm not going to get into specifics, but please understand that to hold a track event you must find a significant amount of participants willing to track their cars. I ask that you respect our decision based on the variables we are continually faced to evaluate in order to hold a successful event.
When we have proof that a WEST coast EXPO will be a success, we are all on board for it, unfortunately there is no evidence to suggest that is the case. Sorry, but it is the truth. I don't wish to start an argument in this thread so please don't clutter it with comments in response to this post.
Until then, we look forward to seeing the familar faces who make the trek from the west coast each year. Hopefully some day we'll be able to bring it much closer to them.

Here are the two most popular tracks at Summit Point.
ITR Expo never go there, but one day we probably should.
The proximity of these tracks to the most hardcore base of Honda-Tech track attendees, and the most popular Porsche Club, SCCA, and NASA franchises would probably make it the most attended Expo in history.

I patiently await the official announcement.

Re: Potential EXPO dates (Aug 23/24)
Thanks for the reply. Based on that reply you would agree that finding enough ITR owners willing to track their cars might not happen then, yes? While i appreciate your feedback on the matter, the event is dedicated to ITR owners with the option of opening up registration to other vehicles in the event that enough R owners don't register. If "EXPO" were about getting honda-tech track junkies together, there certainly wouldn't be an issue of holding a West coast event. Unfortunately, it sounds like you'll agree that finding the R owners needed might be an issue. We certainly hope that someday we can hold a West coast event. We would love to give you all the opportunity to understand what the hype and excitement about our annual event is all about.
Best,
- Jon

Oh, and I just wanted to say "Thanks" to everyone who is involved in organizing this event. It's not easy, I know. You can never make everyone happy. So thank you!

Jon - I think that date would actually work pretty well for me. I'd really like to attend E10 and will be willing to come back from Europe to do it.
