Default Popping the trunk problem

Does anyone have this problem in their ITR? In the manual it says it *may* be a problem and to go to the dealership. Symptom: to open the trunk, I have to turn the key clockwise 90 degrees and hold it, then lift up on the trunk. And it doesn't work all the time, I have to do it maybe 3 times tops. I kind of expect the thing to just pop open after twisting.

I tried searching. Thanks for any help!

This is a common problem with all 98+ Integra hatches.

98s have the updated trunk latch. They don't pop like the 94-97s. Well, at least mine doesn't. If it is a 97, could it be that the trunk struts are wearing out?

Sorry forgot to say, it's an 00. Anyone have info? Cost to fix? DIY'er? Dealership? Quick fix? Don't bother, it'll keep breaking? Stuff like that, thanks!

I think if you replace the lock mechanism it becomes fixed.

Im pretty sure budman had the same prob and replaced his trunk lock assembly.

Mine has trouble closing because the latch sometimes won't latch

need a new trunk lock actuator

025 74840-ST7-A01 ACTUATOR ASSY.

if the latch in the hatch itself sticks, remove, bend/modify, wd-40 and reinstall.

How much $ were parts?
How long did it take?
Difficultly level scale of 1-5?

Or did you just go to the dealer?

Thanks!

I took it to the dealer and had a variety of other things done at the same time so I can't give you an exact price. Call Len and get a price.

agreed. The handle doesnt pull a cable like regular trunk releases, its an actuator.

umm i just twist my key and pull the latch under the trunk, I didnt think they are suppose to jus pop when you turn the key.

turn to unlock with key-->pull lever

If anyone does this post a write up . I just figure it is a layer of security to make it harder for someone to steal my rear strut bar or sub from the trunk =P.

So how do you open the 98+ without manually opening it from the inside if the actuator is busted?

Do all US ITRs have the internal trunk popper lever? I have owned 4 DC2 integras and i can safely say i have never opened the trunk with the key...well not that i can ever remember anyways.

the 94-97s had the lever inside, whereas the 98+ didnt have a lever and you had to open it from the outside.

i never had trouble opening it but i had trouble CLOSING it couple times...
and i figured out.. to get the trunk open.. have your car "unlocked" and it usually opens easy.
and when i had trouble closing.. .. the lever popper stays "open" then it wont close.
so.. move back the lever popper to "closed" position. then it worked for me
