That's the same thing the AC purists in the UK said about that brash Texan named Caroll, that "shoehorned" 289's and 427 side oilers into those douchebag AC "sports cars" that they could barely keep running. (can you say lucas wiring?)

Funny thing is, that some of the most valuable cars in human history have "engine swaps" from the factory or a specialty manufacturer.

Baldwin Motion ZL1 Corvette's came from the factory in base 350 corvette trim, and left the mad scientist workshop at BM with an all aluminum 500+hp Big block and power front disc brakes, along with some other suspension tweaks and improvements. Today, they're seven figure cars.

The Hartge H50 V10 is not "just an engine" swap. It's a specialty manufacturer automobile, that starts with a new 3 series as it's canvas and ends up a hand built 5 passenger exotic killer. That's pretty special if you ask me. Not to mention that you don't need years of Porsche driving schools to get anywhere near the cars limits without killing yourself like you do with a GT3, lets not even say GT2.

and yet you'll buy a fattened up 3-series with a suet pudding of a V10 under the bonnet?

Well - for most people spending $140 grand on a car -- you want it to look a little better than a German taxicab. I mean - couldn't they pick a little nicer recipient car?

The Mercedes SLK with SLR motor conversion is even faster (faster than an Enzo btw) and looks much sexier than the 3 series saloon -- which doesn't even have a decent sized rear seat.

Actually for $140,000 --- I could buy an E60 M5 and get the Dinan stroker kit and still have change in my pocket for other mods (and have a way nicer car too). 600 hp and 400 ft/lbs torque

the 335i comes turbo, not sure how the auto tranny works, but cant you just put in a single turbo and get about 500-550 whp, like da supra guys do, it would be ALOT cheaper and the same horsepower

that might be so if the bottom ends were built as strong, which I doubt

They did this a few years back also with an e46 3 series and e39 m5 drivetrain; it had a lot of trouble with traction.

There's a fellow on one of the BMW forums who has an M Coupe and obtained a rolled e60 m5 to swap into his Coupe; wonder if he ever went thru with it. I think that would have been pretty amazing but useless at the same time.

For the money, I think there are better, funerer alternatives.

Nice! When the motor in mine lets go, it will be LSx time. Unfortunately, it's not showing any signs of doing so in the near future.

Wether you like BMW's or not, you have to respect Hartge's craftsmanship, and finished product. The V10 looks as if it came from the factory in there. The weight advantage the car has over the M5 and M6 makes it noticeably faster, and, very unique. Like a frankenstein M3 on steroids.

11 second quarter mile times and 185+ (300km/h) top speed are a reality with the H50. If you don't think so, do the research.

eh, before I even clicked this thread, a bunch of thoughts went through my mind. Most of them were orange and black blurs.

I'd be interested to see the way that hartge thing presents itself on a track. That's an awful lot of power to put in a stock 3 series body.
