Default OT: Lotus Exige Oficially Coming to US in '06

I know this isn't ITR related, but damn I have always loved this car and it is similar to the ITR in some of its philosophical approaches. I've read cost will be ~50k.

I'm very, very, very tempted.

an R can't compete with this...heh

Any news on the Exige 240R version? I hope that makes its way over! Or whatever it was...that other newer, lighter Lotus which is as if a streamlined version of this one

According to Autoweek, it has a new front splitter, sculpted hard top and rear spoiler provide almost 100 pounds of downforce at 100mph.

It appearently out handles the Elise. Still has the same 1.8 Toyoter engine.

But there only bringing 350 to the states in 06!

Elise's are going for 10k over sticker, so I can only imagine how much this limited production exige is going to sell for

It may look similar to an Elise, but every single body panel (minus the doors I think) is different.

If I remember correctly, my friends earlier model Exige had CF panels? No?

The Series 2 Exige is little more than an Elise Coupe. Yes - all the panels are different (save the doors), but mechanically it is identical to the Elise.

The Series 1 Exige was a completely different beast from an Elise (except for the Sport 190). It didn't have CF panels, but had many changes/upgrades over most Elise variants.

Here's my Exige in action (T6 @ Road America):

The Lotus rep at the NY Auto Show mentioned that the car on display was being sent for "crash test certification". I guess he wasn't bullshitting earlier this year about the Exige being available in the states.

It might be time for me to act like Duece Bigalow and start manwhoring to get the money for this car.

Yup its comming.. My work is now taking orders....

Exige Compared to Elise
While the Elise and Exige use the same engine, chassis and gearbox, the Exige carries a higher level of standard equipment.

Key Exige differences
- Optional Elise Lotus Sport Suspension is standard
on Exige
- Forged wheels, stiffer springs and shocks
- Aerodynamic bodywork package
- Generates much greater downforce
- Greater downforce equals higher cornering
speeds
- Only produced with a hardtop
- Hardtop required to manage airflow to the
rear wing
- Body panels are produced using a 'hand-lay'
method
- Elise panels are formed under pressure in a
special Lotus molding process

Bodywork
- All CRP (Composite Reinforced Plastic) panels are produced using the 'hand-lay' method
- Gas strut engine cover support (internal release mechanism)

Standard Equipment
Exterior
- Matte black forged alloy wheels
- Front: 6.5JX 16, Rear: 7.5JX 17
- Yokohama Advan A048 tires
- Front: 195/50R 16, Rear: 225/45R 17
- Aero Package
- Black front splitter, side scoops,
rear wing and rear diffuser
- Hardtop
- Engine bay cover
- Black mesh trim
- Front brake ducts, radiator outlet
and engine bay outlets
- Lotus Sport Suspension
- ABS brakes with servo assist
- Cross-drilled ventilated brake discs
- Central twin exhaust
- Twin oil coolers
- Daytime running lights
- LED Taillights with integrated reflectors Interior
- Black cloth sport seats
- Probax anatomical padding
- Black cloth door panels
- Black carpet foot mats
- Aluminum trim
- gear **** & handbrake sleeve
- manual window winders
- Air conditioning
- Airbags (driver and passenger)
- Alarm system with remote locking
- Leather trimmed steering wheel
- Interior trunk release
- Sound system
- Radio and single CD
- 4 speakers

Optional Equipment
Touring Pack $1,350
- Same as Elise except for insulated soft-top

Contains:
- Full leather/perforated trim in black leather only
- Electric windows
- Upgraded radio with single CD player and MP3 capability
- Full carpet set
- Interior stowage net
- Additional sound deadening on body and chassis

Air-Conditioning Delete $250
- Heater unit replaces the standard air conditioning system
- Same controls except for buttons for air conditioner or recirculation are removed
- Deletion of the A/C system saves about 20 lbs.

Limited Slip Differential with Lotus Traction Control $1,790
- Torque-sensing limited slip differential designed to distribute power more evenly between the rear tires
- Reduces tendency to spin the inside rear tire when exiting low speed corners under heavy
acceleration
- Allows more aggressive acceleration out of low speed corners in autocross competition

Lotus Traction Control $495
- Modulates power through Engine Control Module in order to maximize grip
- Includes a console mounted switch to disable the system

Track Pack
Adjustable suspension components for the ultimate in set up $2,495
- Adjustable Bilstein dampers with remote front reservoirs and threaded spring perches. Compression
and rebound are adjusted together with a single ****
- 5 way adjustable front sway bar for tuning roll stiffness
- Rear track link to stiffen rear suspension pick up points for improved control of suspension alignment
under hard cornering

Interior Trim

Sport seat is standard
- Black cloth standard
- Black leather is optional with the Touring Pack
- Elise seat base with revised backrest
- Features harness cut-outs and larger wings

ProBax padding
- Developed with NuBax
- Features new anatomical padding with multi-density
foams
- Foams contoured and strategically placed to reduce
seat pressure, enhance comfort and improve seated
posture
- Upholds the natural curve of the spine and allows
tendons and ligaments, instead of muscles, to
support the spine.
- Also provides isolation from vibration that may
contribute to back pain
- Better anatomical support allows lumbar adjustment
to be deleted

I'll take a C6 Z06 with LG long tube headers instead....

at least I'll have room for my golf clubs and maybe some tools for the track.

Fantastic looking car with excellent performance at the track, but not practical at all, and not a "everyday car". The R can be used everyday in almost any situation... got a big boot and backseats, I think its nice to drive my favorite machine more than just on trackdays...

But buy it, and send it here for an engine-swap, put in a 230PS K20A:

that would rock

I will have an Elise in 5 years or less. It's such a wet dream for it to have come here. I can't belive more of us haven't mortgated our homes to buy one.

We like to complain about the cars we don't get but it was a revolution to get the Elise. It's up there among the M3 CSL, NSX, 355/360, M5...I need one.

Not anymore. You can get a new one for $2k under MSRP, and used ones(10,000 miles) for as low as $38,000.

Park an Exige and an ITR at the mall next to each other and see which one is still there when you come back in a few hours

I saw one yesterday leaving work!! I work right down the street from Lotus NA distrubutor. I saw a white Exige leaving there, OMG it was so bad ***! It was white, had black wheels, and the weird looking rear spoiler. I will go by there at lunch today and see if its there and try and get some pics.
