Re: oil burning question
well, if your burning oil, you'll probably need new rings, plus that compression was a bit off. you'll need a rebuild.
how many miles are on the car?

Re: oil burning question
engine has prolly like 85k on it. and one6 ILL garage and profunction told me the compression is fine and it prolly just needs valveseals and guides or a head rebuild.

Re: oil burning question
it's probably ring related and if it were my car i would just do a hone with new rings n call it a day. new rings and valve seals do wonders to your average high mile b18c

Re: oil burning question
my old one used to use about as much as yours (actually looked like a mosquito truck going down the road), replaced rings and did a hone job, it quit burning oil after that.

Re: oil burning question
my caR burns its fair share of oil and prior to this summer when i did maintenance after taking the car out of storage, i noticed that my old plugs had this weird white crusty buildup on them. best i can describe them is they looked like calcium deposites...however, none of them were oil fouled

But prior to the head rebuild, my car went through oil like crazy like you guys. And only one plug (cyl 4) kept getting that white crusty build up with black fouling. I thought the root cause were bad valve seals and guides.
But now with my rebuilt head, cyl 4 still gets the black fouling with the white crusty build up. Compression is fine across all four (200ish PSI) and the oil burning is about 1 qt every 2 weeks or about 500-1000 miles. So not too crazy as before.
I guess my oil control ring/ring land is busted in cyl 4 cause the block wasn't touched when my head got rebuilt (it was assumed fine, no scoring on the cyl walls).
