new itr owner. questions about hondata setup

Re: new itr owner. questions about hondata setup
The easiest way is to purchase the latest version of a hondata already installed in a obd1 computer. You will also need an adapter harness to plug into the stock ecu harness. Once you have it all plugged in download the stock itr map onto your hondata and it will get you started. I'm sure you know, but you will need to get it tuned on a dyno preferably to run optimally. There is endless information out there...
Now the best route to go would be to keep it stock...

With bolt-ons you will definitely make more power with a hondata and a good tune. Even stock itr's can make a bit more power...The only reason why I said keep it stock is because its a type r and you will only be depreciating its value every mod you make...and mods get addicting!

i debated hard whether i wanted to keep it stock or not because of that reason. but i dont ever plan on getting rid of it so i figured might as well do what i want with it. and you are right.....mods are very addictive lol so should i not even plan to use hondata unless i have a dyno and tuner?

It's your car, enjoy it the way you feel best.
Yes, I wouldn't install Hondata without an experienced tuner and dyno. Buy or rent a wideband and don't just focus on peak power. Partial throttle is what one is in the majority time when street driving. If your partial throttle is off, your driving experience (aka enjoyment) will suffer.

Definitely enjoy it the way you want. The hondata is fun because of the ability to have so much more control, but it will not make any power on its own. Someone will need to be proficient in tuning both the fuel and timing tables. a wideband is an absolute must as well.

Re: new itr owner. questions about hondata setup
i was looking at the plx wideband. i wasnt gonna run the hondata without it. but ill have to do some looking around and see if i can find anyone that i feel would be good to trust. would it be a waste if i still ordered the hondata and wideband in the meantime just to monitor how my car runs? then hopefully find someone that can help me make the most out of my upgrades?

Re: new itr owner. questions about hondata setup
PLX is what I went with. I can recommend a solid tuner who offers remote tuning if you are not local:
https://www.imwtuned.com/
I would install and tune at the same time, unless you are familiar with loading maps onto Hondata.
