Default BODY SHOP WOES (JDM ****** HEADS UP)

Alright so here's my problem. I'm storing the R at my parents place for the winter. My father and I tucked it in the corner of the garage and built a small barrier around it (so the 16 yr. old lil sis won't smash into it pulling in.) It was all finished and perfect until my dad dropped a level on the front bumper, ripping the car cover and putting about a 1" gash in the front of the bumper. Now what do I do? Most of the body shops around here are garbage, and finding a front bumper that's in the condition mine is in is impossible. All you JDM people need to give me a hand. I need a 00'-01' PY USDM Front bumper. It needs to be in perfect condition, and I don't even need the lip. Also, for all you people thinking about going JDM, you're removing the front bumper anyway, why not sell it to me and have some more cash in your pocket. Any help is appreciated, cuz I need it.

Of course I worried about that. My R has 12,000 miles and is flawless. I wish I had a digi camera to take a pic, but it goes down into the plastic of the bumper. I definitely will have this repaired. Anyone know if something like this can just be touched up professionally, or would the entire front bumper need to be painted??

u'r worried about a 1 inch gash on the bumper? now? seriously, that's like such a minor thing, most people who would be interested in BUYING your car probably wouldn't even care.

worry about it after the snowy season. then ask any bodyshop how much it'll cost to repair. why worry about it now when you can't even drive it?

Exactly, I'm not going to have it touched until spring, but I would like to have some sort of plan as for what I'm going to do. As for the "babying your car comment" A flawless stock R w/ 12,000 miles is worth a hell of a lot more than one that's beat to ****. When you pay an upwards of $20,000 for a car, you want to keep it in great shape. If that's "babying" your car, so be it.

If you care about your caR that much then never bring it to a HPDE, you would loose your mind on how much stuff lands on the car.

But by not doing any HPDEs your also loosing out on how much fun you can have.

SO whats more important, Money or Happiness?

any reputable body shop should be able to repair or replace the bumper cover. They are the exact same as any other 98+ integra. The real problem is trying to match that PY paint... I would call a local Mercedes or BMW dealership and find out where they send their bodywork too...

FYI: These incidents are covered under comprehensive, so you might as well file a claim if your'e going to have it repaired.

So just because I don't bring my car to a HPDE, I'm loosing out on my money? That's a real ignorant statement. Does everyone that own a M3, or S4 track their cars? A Type R is a great performing car, but their are plenty of other cars that would destroy it on the track. It all comes down to a matter of preference. Personally I prefer getting up on a nice summer day, taking out the Aarg and headin up to the White mountains to put it work. It's a shame that you say I'm "wasting" my money because I would like to fix my car. Go take a key and run it down the side of your R and tell me how much you like it.

First, "That's a real ignorant statement" Take that back. Nothing I said was anywhere ignorant.

Second, " I'm loosing out on my money?" What the F--k!

Third, Try reading what I typed again, there is nothing mean or wrong about what I typed. Please just reread what I type and then reread it again and ask yourself what was my question?

Some people .

*runs and kicks front bumper and adds speed wrinkles to front fender with fist*

We dont really care what the car looks like so long as it goes. And if you really want me to, Ill key my car just to prove my point.

There are two big tribes of ITR owners.

The racers/track day people and the collector/show people. Basically. I don't mean to insult either group by simplying things too much, but I htink that's about right.

To the tribe of racers/track day people, it's a complete waste owning an ITR that isn't brought out to the track every once in a while, and they aren't necessarily going to care about a nick here and there, since they've got Porsche GT2's throwing high velocity expensive chunks of rubber at them all day long, anyway.

What's ironic to many of us is that the show/collector tribe also make occasional references to taking their cars to the canyons or the mountains for a bit of a run or what you called "a workout." That is far, far more dangerous than going to the track.

At least at the track you can rely a little bit on the training of the drivers around you, or you can rely on the well trained instructor in the car to rein in an errant, inexperienced driver.

Out there in the mountains or canyons, the risk to your car and the risk to your life is actually far greater than coming down to the track w/us for a NASA event.

I'm sorry that people made fun of you for wanting to fix your little nick...that's just the modus vivendi of the track hounds.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Does everyone that own a M3, or S4 track their cars? </TD></TR></TABLE>

Not the best cars to cite when talking about faster track cars. LOL... We do actually pass a few of them.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> It's a shame that you say I'm "wasting" my money because I would like to fix my car.</TD></TR></TABLE>

You're not wasting your money if that's what you want your car to look like.

Hang in there. You'll get the recommendation you're after sooner or later. I'll see if I can get my Yankee friends to peek in and recommend someone.

Is the bumper not fixable with a paint job?

Just give the gash a little TLC and then get it painted. Screw getting a new bumper. Besides, a freshly painted bumper will be better than a used one IMO.

I was accused of typing a ignorant statement, and to the best of my knowledge asking a question is and can not be a ignorant statement.

And my post, if read properly states 1- "If you care about your caR that much then never bring it to a HPDE, you would loose your mind on how much stuff lands on the car." easily understood.

States 2- "But by not doing any HPDEs your also loosing out on how much fun you can have." This is the one statement that I think some people got confused on because they did not read.

and third, is the question-
"SO whats more important, Money or Happiness?" which is referring to money of the investment part and Happiness of driving the car on the track.

I only know the ones in CT but Ill throw them up

Smitys in Bethel does really good work.

You could also maybe contact Mike M over at IPS Racing in Boston. He's got a really good body shop he uses. They have done JDM conversions and recently an RS4 converstion.
