my 97 type r
Picked it up last year and absolutely love this car! Always wanted one when they came out, but was in University and could only dream about owning one. Last year went on a hunt and found this one. It was completely stock other than an AEM intake and Edelbrock header. I added a bit more mods, but keeping it conservative...
- The rims are true Japanese Racing Hart CP-035 in 15" 5 bolt. 8.6 lbs each!
Extremely rare!!! scored them on Ebay, stumbled across them while
randomly searching.
- Did the 2.5" collector mod for the header and added a Greddy Sp Elite exhaust
(cut the tip off)
- Edelbrock Performer X Intake manifold
- Edelbrock 4730 Cams w/supertech dual valvesprings (very mild cams)
- AEM Adjustable cam gears
- 65mm Tapered Throttlebody (bored)
- Full MSD Ignition system
- Fluidyne Rad
- Catch can system
The car pulls strong, but will be getting tuned on a s300 V3 soon...keep everyone posted, but not expecting anything spectacular. I basically have the entire edelbrock setup that they used to sell minus the TB which i bored to the same size instead. not a very popular setup but I wanted something very mild and a little different. I've searched far and wide and never came across anyone with this full package on their car. Anyone want to throw a dyno number for ***** and giggles??

Nice car! Is that the msd billet distributor? Those things are crazy expensive, how do you like the ignition system over stock? Most guys don't do much by way of the ignition system as it's generally looked upon as "unnecessary" until high boost or compression etc. But I've always wanted to know, your are the first person I've seen to have the msd distributor and I have always been curious how they perform.
Always nice to see a'97 R!

The car has 170,000 kms so about 105,000 miles. She still has perfect compression and leak down is well above standards, normal stuff through rings only. The ignition system is a full MSD, so billet distributor, cap, rotor, coil, heat sink etc. I bought it because i got a screaming deal from a member, everything was new, and i was in the market...to be honest i could not tell you if there is any difference because i did all the work over the winter. I don't think there's anything to be gained from it all, but nice to know there's nothing to worry about for a long while. IMO, if your stock setup is in good shape let it be. When i bought the car the previous owner had a Mallory ignition box setup that worked fine, but I couldn't stand to look at it in the engine bay, too much wiring and was messy.

Re: my 97 type r
Nice find on the wheels took me 3 years of searching on Craigslist before I finally found a set. 16" too bad I didn't see the 15" then I could have kept consistency with track tires!
