How I got a 2nd 98 spec Honda Integra Type R for $1,000 dollars...
After a few years stationed in California, I finally got the assignment I've always wanted, Japan. I've been in Japan since October and as soon as I arrived I was on the hunt for a Championship White 98 spec Honda Integra Type R. After a month of persistently searching for the right car. Finally, after countless hours of phone calls and emails between businesses and over a decade of dreaming of a Honda Integra Type R, I decided on this one...
I paid around 700,000 Yen for this car (approximately $9,000 USD) with new snow tires, registration and JCI (Japanese Compulsory Insurance) included in the price. The car has been well taken care of with its history of maintenance and is extremely clean inside and out. I am extremely pleased with this purchase as it is much nicer than my previous 97 Acura ITR and stock minus the Apexi exhaust and Spoon Sports strut bars.
A good friend of mine recently purchased a Honda Integra SiR-G. He showed me an online ad for a 98 spec Honda Integra Type R that was located in Misawa. The car was originally priced at $5,000 dollars but the ad stated $4,500 or best offer. After a month or so the priced dropped to $3,500 or best offer; already a steal for an ITR. I knew the car from seeing it on base and recalled it was a little rough and definitely needed some TLC. However, my friend and I agreed that $3,500 alone was an unbelievable deal, but I didn't really NEED another car.
I had no intentions of buying a 2nd ITR nor did I think too much of the car at first, but my friend insisted on contacting the dealer. We both recognized the owner's name and quickly realized it was an individual who had just been discharged from the Air Force, so I knew he was desperate to sell the car as he had no means to pay for a place to live, let alone a car. I figured it was worth a shot and sent the owner an email. I lowballed the **** out of him. I offered $1,000 cash I'd be willing to bring him for the car immediately. He replied within a couple hours stating he could not go less than 3,000 and knew the car was worth more than that. I told him I understood and that I just didn't have that kind of money at the moment for a second car.
The next day he emailed me again and desperately asked for some kind of deal. He wanted me to do a payment plan for 3,000 and I just stuck to my 1,000 dollar offer. Many emails later, he eventually said $2,000 was the lowest he could go. I called my friend and he said he'd be willing to put down $1,000! So we met up with the dude after work, looked over the car and made a deal to pick the car up sometime that week. I had to jump through a couple loopholes to get the car registered in my name because technically as a single member of the military living in Japan, I am only authorized one vehicle. But I made a phone call and received a 30 day waiver from a really badass commander.
Finally, on Friday he signed the title over and we exchanged keys for cash (one of my favorite parts of purchasing a car, that whole '"it's finally mine" feeling!) So here I am, living in Japan with two Honda Integra Type R... even better than what I could have imagined my Japan experience could have been!
She's rough, really rough compared to my other ITR, but for a running ITR, I think $1,000 dollars is the cheapest I've ever heard anyone scoring one for! Here are a couple of pics I took earlier today. Next weekend the teardown madness begins and I will be sharing some photos here. My friend is taking some parts for his SiR-G and I'm keeping the shell and other parts in hopes of a future build... stateside.
Just a comparison between a $9,000 dollar ITR and a $1,000 ITR...
I will be parting a lot of this car out so if anyone would like anything please IM me and I'll let you know if it's for sale. Enjoy!

You should seriously consider shipping these over here when you're finished. LOL you could start a business finding us Canadian's JDM ITR's. LOL

Living the Dream.
Judging by the new one's styling, I'd say the previous owner was either European or a fan of SEEKER.

Sucks to see an Air Force man get discharged and forced to sell off stuff.
But at least it stays in the service. What you gunna do now? Ask for a transfer to Disney World?

I enjoy seeing individuals get kicked out. They obviously did something that makes them unworthy to wear the uniform they raised their hand and made an oath to wear. Clearly if someone is discharged because of a lack in ability to follow orders and regulations, they do not deserve to serve their country.
