Default How can you justify spending so much on your car???

Well im now 21.. and I think I have came to the point in my life where i might decide to sell my Turbo Type R.... parts or whole....

I own a garage and have my dealers liscense so I wont be getting out of the car scene since i continously modify customers cars and build custom salvage integras for customers....

But i just cant find the way to justify having so much money in my Type R just sitting in the garage under its cover...

I got sponsered this summer from a Wheel company but since I only attended 2 shows they obviously dont wanna give me another set of wheel for next year. I thought i would be really into the scene this summer like I was when I was 17-18 but I just dont have the time or will to do it anymore..
I drove the car a total of maybe 20 times all summer... I wont park it anywhere unless I can see it, Im always driving looking in the rearview mirror making sure no one will smash into me.. and im always afraid to boost the crap outta if cuz i know how much it cost when things break.....

Then to top it off I ended up buying a yamaha R6 this summer and I think it fullfills my need for speed for 1/10th the cost...............

But on the other hand I built the car from scratch over a full year,,, and I made it perfect...............But then i have my dad saying sell it... since i can basically put a down payment on a house with the money i sell it for!!!!!!!!!!

So now what to do??? Sorry about this long pointless post just wondering what you guys thought and when its time to let go of something you truly love!!!!

Car started like this:

and now looks like: 479WHP...........

seems like you should have bought a mint stock one and you would be enjoying it a lot more... I hope that was not out of line?

it was a lot of work putting it together but it seems as though the R just doesn't complement your way of being anymore. The yamaha purchase may have been the sign it's time to move on.

save up and don't let material things hold you down. Best of luck-

the "smart" thing to do (economically) would be to sell it and invest the money wisely (i.e. a house as your father suggested). the sentimental thing would obviously be to keep it. if the sentimental factor begins affecting the economical factor in a negative way, it'd be time to sell it. good luck with the choice, and truly amazing job on the car

I too have felt like you do, although I don't, and never have, owned and R. I have had my si boosted, and now(since 03) it has a type r power plant. When I turned 21, i bought my bike, the speed was plenty, and I was able to modify it. My Si got no attention, I was always riding the bike. So I decided to cut off my plans for the Si's modification. A few months later (still 21) I decided I was too old for the civic, so I bought a brand new g35, luxury sport. Well needless to say, it's been a little over a year with the G, spent money on rims, dvd, system, etc, now I'm back to spending money on my all motor, type R, civic. The G35 is my daily driver, my Si is my project, and my bike collects dust. You will go through phases, just don't sell the R unless you are totally sure, trust me, after you sell, you will wish you didn't........ You only live once, you enjoy modifying your car, then why stop. But keep in mind, also do things for your future. I have been investing since forever (thanks Dad for getting me into it), it can really pay off. Put money aside for a house. As long as you are smart with your finances, you can do plenty.

I can't justify it, but I do it anyway. Fug it you only live once. You can always file for bankruptcy later.

I dont spend much on mine. The Type-R is fun stock.

One thing I've learned is faster does not equal more fun.
Driving it, racing it, using it is whats fun.

stop worrying and trying to analyze it so much. live your life for today. if you are worried about the future so much, such as buying a house, then just realize you have your whole life ahead of you to do that. Ive blown my car up twice and currently sits on jacks in the garage, and its caused me all sorts of heartache and pain, but thats LIFE and my car is apart of it. go with your gut. when your car doesnt give you joy anymore, whether its satisfaction of building it from scratch, or tearing around the track, then its time to let it go and move on.

first off, you may have invested 25-30k into the car, but the value of that car isn't anywhere near that. if you don't need the money or don't want to spend the money elsewhere, then by all means keep the car and enjoy it.

all i can say is if you sell the car, don't use that money to buy another car... you're going from one money pit to another. cars are not investments.

being a fairly young home owner( 23 in California that is) I can tell you that there is no better feeling of accomplishment knowing that the work you put into your house is yours. but a house is a ton of work. I dont know your financial situation but I had to buy a fixer upper that my fiancee and I have really turned around to be one of the best houses on the block.

The flipside is that a turbo type R would be a very good marketing tool for your shop that you could use to gain exposure.

Its a tuff call but a house is an investment ( i have gained a little over 100k in equity in a year) where a car is only going to depreciate.

dude look at my sig (talk about wastng money). I'm actually happy with the stupid mazda 3 cuz I'm not scared to park, drive, beat, or whatever it and it kicks *** on milage. My payments are 240/month on a finance so I'm saving cash there. I figure once I'm alittle older and more finacially secure I can get a second SICK car and not give a hoot if it breaks cuz I'll have the money to cover it plus I'd have a beater.

Hell I sold my EVO because I was scared to drive it fast in fear of it breaking. Once your scared to drive your sports car fast then you need to sell it.
