Hong Kong Performance Shops

Re: Hong Kong Performance Shops (Mugen_DC2R)
holy ****............is it really what you guys thinking when it comes to shopping (performance parts) in HK?
Not speaking Chinese certainly will post some problem as some of the shop owner/employee don't speak English well. But I don't think they will post a "mark-up" to welcome any tourists. Just like you shopping in US.....doing research/ homework is always essential to get the best price.

Being a HK'er
cash talks, so if you walk in with cash money, you will get the best deals

Honestly, for brand new parts, there's really not much you can get over there that you can't get here for similar prices (maybe slightly lower). A lot of times the HK shops don't stock, and they have to order from Japan and wait several weeks, just like here.
More and more JDM companies are setting up their network in the US, IMHO just save the hassle of shipping back yourself.

I agree what wai said. Sometimes you even need to wait for a month for the parts to get here. Plus if you are getting something big, be prepare to pay big for the shipping. And really, I don't think the part's price in HK were that much different.
Sometimes it's kind of useless too unless you know the actual phase of that part in cantonese. For example the caliper in cantonese is called Abalone...

I have to agree HK performance shop hv attitude problem. some like around Mong kok area, they think they are the best shop around and give you shxt once you talk shxt with them. I am cantonese too, born, rasie in HK. I once ask them about coilover couple years ago when i went back. my question is just how high spring rate the rear coilover can support and they start give me lecture why i am looking to hv high spring rate instead of it's "standard" set that come with and blah blah blah, no need very high spring rate for a type r cuz they tend to oversteer...although i remind them i am not using in HK and its a weekend track car.
After around an hr lecture and they finally suggest i am going with OLINS PCV with UPGRADE swift spring 16k/f and 10k/r. total cost $26,xxx HKD with revalved. I told them i am running spoon N1 with 16k/18k and I just want something lighter before I walk out the shop
they just think you are kid if you dont drive in and bought stuffs. And all your needs are nothing compare to their professional suggestion

Re:
Maybe i should share more inside about shopping car stuff in HK. Since i have been to both side of the Pacific ocean.
In HK you can almost get anything you wanted from Japan as long as you have a big pocket. The shop in Mong Kok area isn't a place to get parts because i found that there attitude and pricing are not very good. Also availability of parts are very limited except for EVO or STI. The best place for parts are Man Auto part or Super GT because both them stock alot of JDM goodie!! Also the pricing are quite reasonable but attitude is still a problem. That is what i found since i came back to HK 7 years ago. Good luck!

Re: Re: (ku)
Please note that Man Auto parts is located very remote area, which required you to take taxi to get there. As for Super GT it is located it little better, it is in Kowloon Bay, you have to walk about 15 minutes from MTR station (subway). Good luck!
